This weekend will prove to be yet another huge one in Horse Racing as the last of the Stakes races leading up to the Kentucky Derby commence. This truly is crunch time; the coming weekend could easily make or break a number of the top contenders vying for the coveted bed of roses.
We first start with the Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland Park, which should prove to be a major race. Three of the major colt contenders; First Samurai, Bluegrass Cat, and Strong Contender, will all be competing in this highly important Derby prep event. First Samurai, who proved to be an amazing 2-year-old, started this year as one of the top Derby favorites. The fact however remains that he has not actually crossed the finish line first this year, while many of his contemporaries have, and as a result of this, many have began to dismiss him as a viable favorite. But it may be too early to write the old Samurai off as he has the possibility to return to his brilliant form this Saturday, and prove his critics wrong.
Kentucky Derby analysis, tips & picks
Next up we have the $1 million Arkansas Derby, at Oaklawn Park. Private Vow will look to bounce back from his 7th place finish at the Rebel Stakes earlier this year, and get back himself back on track leading up to the Derby. Lawyer Ron will also be set to the hit track at this meet as he looks to continue his flawless winning streak. He has won his last five starts by 31 lengths, and this race will prove to be the most important of his career. The Arkansas Derby is the richest race of the meet, and will be televised on ABC.
The aftermath of this approaching weekend is sure to completely change the Kentucky Derby Futures Odds, be sure to keep up-to-date.
The Bodog Racebook hopes you join us in one of the last weekends before the Derby, it's only 3 weeks away!
