What's the Record for the Shortest Tenure as Speaker of the House?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The National Enquirer, who completely destroyed John Edwards, is releasing a story tomorrow about how several hundred paper-making jobs were lost in Boehner's district and he refused to do anything about it at the same time he was sleeping with a lobbyist for the printing industry that was very happy to get their cheap paper from China.

Sometimes small stories become bigger than they should, and sometimes big stories get swept under the rug. Will the American public collectively yawn, or call for his head?

What's the Record for the Shortest Tenure as Speaker of the House?

The shortest-lived Speakership, meanwhile, belonged to Theodore M. Pomeroy of New York, who held the gavel for only one day in 1869.

Of course Boehner hasn't been sworn in yet, so he could still beat Pomeroy's record. He could be sworn in the morning, and die of an alcohol induced brain aneurysm in the afternoon.
