I know a lot of folks had the under on this one, but the man just has brassier balls than anyone in baseball.

Already clutching the silver sombrero (swinging all 3 times), Bonds steps up against a world class pitcher looking to close out a complete game and CRUSHES the first pitch into the seats to tie the game in the top of the ninth. What a player. I dunno if we will ever see a better hitter in the game.

Who cares what the *perception* of his personality is in the media? So he treats the meda like a bunch of jerks? Most journalists are jerks. Have you ever been in a press box with those lowlifes? I went one time while I was in college and that was all I needed to know that I would never want to be a journalist.

I have a feeling I know what the response to that is. "He treats his teammates poorly, too." Well, he probably does. He probably doesn't take well to the fact that they don't work as hard as he doesand that they are more fake to the media than he is.

Unless you know Bonds personally (which I am quite sure you don't) let's stop worrying about whether he says, "thank you," to the bat boy and lets enjoy the fact that he is a brilliant baseball player. I mean, that is what we are watching, right? Baseball?

Nick ..

problem is .. as bettors it does not do his image good in your eyes when he homers when ya have the Under and grounds into double plays when you have the Over.

I have bad karma with some players and he is one of them. I dont get to see him much bcoz they hardly come to Toronto.

Not saying he is not a good player .. just that his goodness is not rubbing off on the Vulcan ...

Barry is paid to play baseball at an exceptional level, which he does quite well. He walks it like he talks it. That's all that matter's as far as I am concerned. He is not like Jason kidd whacking his wife around, playing to the cameras (the entire family participates in Kidds case) playing at about 65% of the time on an above average level.Barry produces and excels despite being pitched around and thrown junk the majority of the time.

I don't care how shitty his personality is.
I am not gonna make friend with him....
Greatest hitter I've ever seen.
He is so quick, so powerful, the most important is he got good eyes and won't chase bad balls. That's why he fightens the pitchers so much...................

BTW I was on SF and he helped my pocket $$$ a little bit :D

Bad Boys

Bad Boys

If Bonds is truly baseball's "bad boy" then he backs it up with his bat just as the the greatest bad boy did with his racket

Couldn't agree with you more, you hit the nail on the head. Bonds is most likely the greatest hitter of our lifetime (maybe in the history of the game) the guy is just really honed in, focused is the word. Just like all the great ones.

If people would just take him for what he is a great ball player things would be fine, but the press has portrayed him as a bad guy of sorts. He is not paid to be win a popularty contest. One thing else is that he treats everyone the same and is the same all of the time, he is not a PHONY person at all, like a lot of the guys that portray one image to the media and when a comera is not in their face they are real ASSHOLES.

So just enjoy the guy and be entertained for what he is a helluva ball player. And don't pass judgement on him for what you read in the papers.

I realize Colon had fanned Bonds the first 3 times he faced him but there's no way Colon should've still been in to face him. It's the 9th inning, and the Sox have a LH reliever in Marte who's entire existance is getting LH hitters out. Once Durham got a hit, Manuel should've went to Marte. You know after 3 looks at Colon that Bonds would make the necessary adjustments to catch up to the fastball. But not knowing how to handle a pitching staff is nothing new to Manuel, who should consider himself extremely fortunate not to be among the unemployed.

I have to disagree with the comparison of McEnroe to Bonds. McEnroe is among the most "fake" athletes of all time. I mean, sure, he was just a natural hothead at first, but then he basically made it part of his act. As they say in the pro wrestling biz, he was working the crowd by the end of his career and in all the celebrity events he participated in.

Plus, the guy becomes essentially a media darling. He frequents talk shows, his personal life is trumpeted in the tabloids, he hosts a bad game show and he even writes a book. I see McEnroe as the exact opposite of Bonds. McEnroe has a carefully crafted public persona. Bonds appears to show his true self (unless he for some reason wants the media to think he's arrogant).

Couldn't agree more with Valuist. No way Colon should have still been in. Guy has just finall started to turn around his crappy start and BOOM. 7ER in 8 + in a game he was dominating. Of course Colon is going to to say he wants to stay in the game. I thought Bonds was going to hit one in the previous AB. 3rd time was a charm, but 4 times is stupidity.
