Real estate in Boston has gone through the roof.. Blitz is correct, Peabody isn't bad at all, but BTJ is also correct, North Shore is a nightmare to get into Logan every day. My brother and his family live in Lynnfield, which is right next to Peabody. He usually takes the train because it's an absolute parking lot getting in and out of town from the North and South all day. I just saw a study that Boston traffic is the worst in the nation and even worse than LA. Dorchester, Somerville, JP, South Boston all used to have nice neighborhoods with some reasonable prices. Not anymore.
Unless this promotion was big, big money a place in town for a family of four is out of sight. Suburbs real estate is brutal also. With a family, if he wants a house, you're going to have to be on the North Shore, South Shore or MetroWest. And you'll still pay to be close to the T
my other brother worked in town for years before he got married. Eight hour days were routinely 12+ driving in from Foxboro. Married with two kids he gave up 20 K to not work in Boston. No easy answers for you.

Now that I think about it. My brother flies out of Logan, a half a dozen times a month for business. I think your son's best option would be driving to the blue line probably Revere, and take the blue line to the Logan airport stop (which isn't really at Logan). There is a free shuttle that goes to every terminal.

I take the Orange Line into Boston everyday. A lot of people from Peabody chose to park at Oak Grove to take the T. But the parking there fills up early in the morning. If he can park there he could pick up the Blue Line at State to get into Logan.

If she is driving him his best bet would be to be dropped off at Oak Grove. That is in Malden and its a pretty good ride from Peabody maybe 30 minutes without traffic.

Anyway from there he wants to get on the Orange line and take it to State Street. Where he will change trains and get on the Blue line to Logan.

It sounds complicated but it is not. The only thing that bothers me is the ride from Peabody to Oak Grove. But that is the closet subway to Peabody. Of course off hours the traffic is not too bad getting into Logan just the rush hours are really bad.
