As posted earlier Nebraska -2.5 for 3 units, the big question here is if Bo Pellini wins this game will he be named the new head coach for the Huskers? Alot of interesting subplots are involved with Pellini, if he is not named head coach will he bolt to Okie and take over the Def Cord position for Stoops? Or if he is not named head coach will he go back to his alma mater and take over the defense for Tressel now that Dantonio has left for Cinci? Personally I think Pellini will be named head coach at Nebraska win or lose, the amount of time it has taken to name a new coach sort of leads me to that conclussion, unless Pederson has an Ace up his sleeve and just is holding out until the season ends. It's quite interesting reading the Nebraska newspapers and seeing the names they are still tossing out as whom will be named head coach, such as Spurrier, which I doubt since if he leaves Wash I doubt if he will ever coach again North of the Mason Dixon line, Al Saunders, why would the Huskers want a 63 yr old Offensive Coordinator? Turner Gill, no chance! Monte Kiffin, another guy that is up there in age. Tom Rathman, too big of a jump from running backs coach of the Lions! Urban Meyer, has been low on the radar, which makes me think he may be a option.

I would really be surprised to see Pellini at Ohio State, I have really good connections there and Tressel will promote from within his staff for the Defensive Cordinator position. I wouldnt be to surprised to see Tressel add Thom McDaniels to his staff the current head coach at Warren Harding. McDaniels would coach tight ends and be a mentor to Maurice Clarett next year. I don't believe that the Nebraska job is too appealing to many of the big name coaches right now, the program is in a mess and recruiting has been lousy for the past five years.

Forgot to add:

To me the Nebraska and Michigan State game is a game everyone should lay off because of the coaching situation. Nebraska usually struggles against mobile qb's that can get outside the pocket and pass (KSU, Tex, Mizzou), I don't put Smoker into that category he is more of a pure pocket passer and the only team that Nebraska played that had a pure pocket passer was Kansas and I believe at that time Whitmore was injured so it's tough to gauge that game. The team Michigan State played that most resembles Nebraska was Wisconsin, they use many of the same philosphies on offense as the Huskers use and Sorgi and Lord both can hurt you with their legs. On the surface you would have to assume that John Smith will outcoach Pellini since this will be his first game, but one intangiable that cannot be capper for this game is the emotional state of Nebraska, it could really inspire them or it could snowball on them and really hurt them. I am going to pass on this play but will wait to halftime to gauge just what mental state Nebraska is in.

sources within a group of Nebraska boosters say Steve Mariucci will accept the head coaching job for the Huskers on Tuesday, with Rathman accompanying him;) this comes from a pretty legit source from whom I have gotten information before, so I suppose we will see tomorrow:shrug:

Joe,

Any thoughts on the over in Texas game? Whats your take on Navy and Tech? I cant get a feel for Fresno and UCLA, still trying to figure out how either one made a bowl game.

Under current conditions on the Texas game....
Wash st. is prone to turnovers on good conditions....with rain and wet field enhances the chances for more turnovers. I'd wait till game time and let the total go to under 57. Texas is good for 39-42 points
Some optional plays
6 point teaser.....Texas over 51 and Fresno state +9
Texas over 51 and Texas Tech -5' or 6
Texas over 51 and Texas-4
passing on the total...I've played this game early and teased with TCU and Ore St down to Texas-5 and Texas -8

Navy is a very good road team and dog...this is the closest matchup of all bowl games....on paper it's dead even...i think navy has the better defense and will control the ball for the 1st half then fade as they did in the Rutgers and Delaware games then Tech unloads in the 2nd half........
Delaware is a very good DEFENSIVE 1AA team and was contained to 21 points. Navy lost at home 17-21. My thinking is they can contain Texas Tech on points and could make the total go under 74. I'm passing on this game...opinion.... .Tech covers the 11' points because of the strength in schedule...last 2 games they lost to texas and oklahoma...probaly be pumped and hungry for the win. I don't see a Big12 team losing to 1A Independents.

Ucla/Fresno.......now this is truely the Shit-Pot Bowl....Pat Hill is the better coach. Ucla has lost their last 4 games. I will not go against this trend and PAC 10 bowl losing trend.... If you held a gun to my head and had to play this game...i'd play a teaser Fresno +9 and Texas -4....lean to the over in this game.

I still like Oklahoma to cover easily.....Stoops=Spurrier....tough to beat in bowl games.gl

Houston Bowl

I have to admit that I have saw only one Navy game this year and that was against Army whom was possibly the worst team in football last year and I was not overly impressed. Army had many opportunities to stay in the game but two interceptions in Navt territory and two late garbage td's by Navy made this game look like a blowout. I have seen Texas Tech play at least 4 times this year and while the defense leaves something to be desired, the offense is lights out especially when playing a inferior opponet. Because of Tech's poor defense I can only risk 1 unit on this play but if Navy gets behind early in the game and has to pass then this game could get ugly, teams that run versions of the bone rarely can come back when they get down early in the game. Navy has made me a ton of cash this year but that was against inferior opponets as only one of their opponets is playing in the post season. On the other hand 7 of Tech's opponets are playing in the post season. I feel this is just a little too much of a step up in competition for a team that 2 years ago was 0-11 but due to Tech's piss poor defense it is a 1 unit play.

Tech-11.5 *

I agree with Joe De and I am passing the Tech game, one note on the Holiday Bowl, look for the Longhorn's speed on the perimiter to be a major factor in this game on both sides of the ball. Another point is that Wash State is the most penalized team in the country which is never good news when betting a dog. This game reminds me of a game a few years ago when ND played Oreg State in a bowl and just got dismantled due to the speed of Oreg State.

Got to agree with the Texas Tech pick. Navy has not seen this kind of team speed on their opponets offense all year. The grind it out offense Navy has is fine if you can get the lead, but that may depend on the coin toss. Look for TT to score early and often.

Bigghead,

Navy is not going to stop the Tech passing game thats for sure this game is going to hinge on the Tech Defense if they can just stop Navy and not allow them to sustain long drives then they will win a blowout. Navy is also going to have to pass in order to stay in this game, no matter how terrible Tech's defense has been against the run if Navy is one dimensional and Tech goes into a Bear defense or overloads the box they will limit the Navy running game. I also believe that Navy will be without their starting Center today which could be a key element in the run game.

I knew that WSU was up their as one of the most penalized teams in the country but didnt know they were tops. I still tend to lean to the over at this point but waiting to see if their is any more line movement.
