Hope I have a better Bowl Season than I had in College Foots as a whole...........things to remember when you cap these games are:
1. Location...........how many external factors might effect a team that has played a long season and now just wants to have a little fun, or what forms of entertainment are available to the players. Also weather can play a factor! (Ie: Miami going to Boise????......I was actually shocked they accepted a bid to play on the Smurph Turf, If it snows there will be a decided advantage for Nevada Wolfpack)...Hawaii comes to play in front of their home crowds.......ASU might be looking foward to the MAi TAIs and not the game.
2. Coachs- Watch out for the Lame Duck Coaches and Coachs that want to pad the resume for future positions in the off-season. Also, take a look how well these coachs have performed in their past bowl attempts to give you a little insight as to their overall preparation for the game. Some just want to reward their players with a vacation, and this will rub off on the players.
3. Always beneficial to look at mid-majors that are given the chance to up-end a major program on national television. Bowl games represent a chance for some of these programs to show prospective recruits what they have to look forward to and why they should pick their program. Many of the upper Div 1 teams simply don't care as much!
4. Dissapointment! Every year we see teams that should throttle their opponent on paper, but fail to show up for the game as they are harboring thoughts of what "coulda" been. Even the best motivator coachs are fighting an uphill battle when a team feels it has been slighted.......
With that said, my plays thus far are:
1. Hawaii -8 (5 units)....WINNA........ASU may be in for a long day.....and the fact that many of these kids will not be with family on Christmas and Rainbow Warriors should win this by double digits!
2. Nevada (+3) (5 units)......I'm hoping to get more points in this one and will definately play the ML when that happens. I will be praying for snow too!
3. BYU -5 (5 units)....Winna........again, I don't see a lot of motivation for this Duck squad, and being in Vegas makes it that much more doubtful.
4. South Florida -3 (5 units)....WINNA.....I made the mistake of calling this program a "solid" team, early in the season when the Rutgers-Pitt debate was going on..... one of the members here informed me that wasn't the case, "South FLorida is certainly not solid"......but the Bulls did manage an 8-4 season, upending W. Virginia and Pitt along the way.......so I will stick with my thoughts and call them solid!
5. Rutgers -7 (5 units)...WINNA........I expect this team to roll Wildcats.........and to put an exclamation point on their season
6. Missouri +3' (7 units)..WINNA.....I truly believe that the Tigers will win this game and feel the wrong team is favored.
7. Boise St +8 (5 units).......kudos to Stoops and Sooners for accomplishing a great season without Peterson, but Boise St. loves to play up and relishes the roll of the underdog...Zabransky and Co. will give Sooners all they can handle! Sooners will get their best effort here.
Good Luck!
