Hudson Valley area.....NY
Herb Larkins sent me some pictures of himself and the flat screen. But my scanner doesn't work.He sent the pictures in the mail.Any idea's on how I can put them on here.I'll ask in school tomr.Maybe my school can scan them and I'll e-mail them to my house.Pretty powerful pictures. One of them made my eyes just tear up.What a freak'in life he must lead and yet he never complains and is so thankful to all the "guardins".When you see these pictures it will make your gifts even more meaningful.Again thank you all.The other day he got an envelope out of nowhwere. How nice that was to who ever sent them that.thank you all again. And Madjack for allowing me to do this here.

Just got back from my Florida trip with my seniors for 5 days. What a great time.I fell asleep in every park all 5 days. But the best picture was in Animal Kingdon on Tues.We were leaving the park at 3.15.I went down to the entrance a little early in case some kids arrived early.I was sleeping on a bench getting some nice sun.But as our seniors arrived they all surronded me for a group picture.Problem was I was still sleeping. They took a few pictures as over 60 kids squezzed in around me.I saw the picture today in school. It's a classic.I've got my sunglass's on,a Philly red cap on and my mouth open .Think I'm going to frame that.
Our kids all behaved. Not one single problem. We met HS groups from Georgia,Alabama,Miss, and Wisconson.Watching all these kids interact from all over the country was so nice. The Georgians were making fun of our NY accents. Our kids were crying over there drawl. It was so rewarding to see all these kids from all over the country talking about there home states,Iraq, school rules,American idol, etc.
I said this last yr when I got back from Disney. What a great country we live in.And what great kids we all have.I know the headlines always paint bad pictures about our youth. And some are true but to see my seniors mingle with a Mississippi band,or a Alabama chorus, etc was beatiful.
That made the trip worthwhile.

Need some help from some Maryland or Virginia people. On May 13th I'm going to a wedding in Charlottesville,Va.My daughter from Austin is going to fly up.If I have her fly into Balt I can pick her up coming down from NY.Then drive from Balt to Charl.Does that make sense.Charlottesville is a small airport and can't find anything for her to fly from Austin. And how far is Balt to Char ? About 3 hoursd right?any suggestions.

Didn't post any b-ball games but loved Florida and won big.Did lose with the girls though.

If you must drive it.. its 150 miles... and thru the 495 beltway... watch out for timing on that drive. DO NOT do it during rush hour - between 3 and 7 during the week on the north side of 495. You;re better off walking.

But you are fine picking her up in either BWI or IAD (Dulles) which is about 12 miles off the beltway. Take a look at flights there and go whichever is cheaper. You lose some time picking people up at BWI because the cops there are nazis about stopping on the curb to pick someone up for anything longer than 4.3 seconds.
Due to construction, the pick up/arrivals section is a nightmare to drive thru and heavily congested. You'd have to park, walk in and find her and then walk out and drive thru the parking structure.

if you end up gonig for BWI though, show up an hour early and you can buy this Canoe U grad a drink for beating you guys in football this year.

Whether you pick her up at Dulles or BWI, I'd advise that, when you get to the Capitol Beltway that you take the I-495 side, then take I-66. From I-66, you can go to Dulles then to US Rt. 29S to Charlottesville. Rt. 29 is a lovely rural ride but can get congested around the towns of Warrenton and Culpeper and, then as you hit the suburban area of Charlottesville.

You may have considered staying on I-95 to Fredericksburg or Richmond then heading west but be aware that there are two huge construction projects that you'll have to deal with on the south side of DC, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project and the "Mixing Bowl" which is the southside merge of I-395, I-95 and I-495. The 120 miles between Washington and Charlottesville may become the longest drive/distance that you've ever encountered.

In this area, much of the highway construction is performed on the weekends and, with the typical weekend traffic in the DC area in the spring, it can be Hell to get to either. My commute from Alexandria to Fredericksburg (51 miles) on a typical Friday evening at the end of rush hour AND using the HOV lanes averages 1-1/2 and can easily be more than 2 hours! Do not bet on being able to average even 45 miles per hour on the Interstate if it's a crap travel (heavy construction/heavy traffic) day. If it's raining, it's even worse since some of these idiots act as if they've never seen it before!

My best recommendation would be for all of you to fly into Richmond then renting a car and taking a beautiful 70 mile drive northwest on I-64!

Box,

That sounds about Right Box. You've got the right idea there.

Kniefl, I don't know how often you travel south on the weekend but I wouldn't bank on DC to C'ville in 3 hours! Box, if you're driving down on the same day as the wedding, it would be wise to allow yourself at least 4, if not 5 hours for this leg of the trip.

It takes 1-1/2 hours from Fredericksburg to Charlottesville on an average day. Hell, in the traffic in Charlottesville it can take 1/2 hour to get from one side of town to the other.
