My Friday Plays, 4/17/09:

Gamboa vs. Rojas WILL NOT GO DISTANCE
the under 7.5 scares me a bit....I got bit last week in the Garcia-Barrera fight
I think at some point Gamboa gets this old man out
probably early, but I am playing it safe(r)

PATRICK LOPEZ over Jossesito Lopez
taking the natural 140 pounder and the southpaw.

MORAN over Booth
taking the youngster with size and strength.

PARLAY
AYDIN to GAMBOA to ANDERSON SILVA in the UFC.
little bit of a risk here. I'm betting on a bit of unknown here in the punching machine Aydin. But I think he will impress in his American debut. If Cintron iced Ouali, I think the little Turkish badass can, too.

Good luck fellas.
Still trying to figure out the Phillipino card. I find both fights quite difficult to handicap. Lots of factors.

Anybody know why the Arrieta odds are so close? I noticed the odds on Wed and bet the max...strictly boxrec wager. Somebody also posted the same question in the boxrec wagering thread. Arrietta dominated the first fight on the cards and had 2 kds. He has about a dozen losses on his record compared to the 1 loss of his opponent. However his opponent has faced MUCH more inferior comp. I must be missing something here. Can Graham possibly chime in?

I took the over on the Ital fight later this morning.

I have manfredo -180. He SHOULD prevail against the lesser fighter but apparently very tough Schmidt.

I lost a bundle on the Gamboa under in Jan. I'm hesitant to bet it but I think he gets the aging Rojas out of there in about 4-5. I took Gamboa straight up -800.

Yeah I don't get the odds on that Arrieta fight-are we missing something here?
The only thing I can see is that the first fight was in Arrieta's hometown, and this rematch is in Ferreyra's hometown.
Maybe that's why the odds are so close.
Also, in the first fight, two judges had it wide, but one judge had it 7 to 5. With the knockdowns, Ferreyra lost 115-111. So maybe the hometown was a factor?

I think you are safe with Gamboa. I don't trust Manfredo, but I think you are safe there as well. Graham likes the Pride of Providence over the Pride of Montreal.

Excellent price on Gamboa Romi. I understand you got that early, but where?
As for Arrieta, I think people just look numbers in fighter records and this not being a big fight maybe there is no much money involved. in spoortsbook he fell from 1,83 to 1,71 where I took him.
My plays for this weekend will be:
-Gamboa under 7,5 1,77 - Gamboa might be a little cautious for this fight, but I like the odds
-P. Lopez 1,87
-Booth 1,83 - I agree with your reasoning Ghost but these are good odds and Moran beat just 2 guys with winning records
-Baloyi 1,5 -missed 1,6 here
-Arrieta 1,71
-Manfredo 1,56
-Cuello over 9,5
Probably gona take unders in few fights with odds better than 3.

Good luck guys

I think the hometown factor has a lot to do with it, Romi, also the fact that the first fight was two years ago and Ferreyra is on a nice winning run while Arrieta is the older man by seven years and was destroyed by Victor Ortiz last September. I think in the the oddsmaker's opinion these factors make this a close fight even though Arrieta won clearly last time. I think that Arrieta might be slightly the better fighter. Against Ortiz, he was in the ring with a man two weight classes bigger than he is. I would lean towards Arrieta, too, but I can see why the odds are the way they are.

Appreciate the quick response Graham. I like the -120 odds.

I wonder if that Italian fight had any hometown hijinx
Zamora was cut, but they stop it and he wins?
was it a tech decision?

sorry romi, you must be crazy right now, but it was a bad stream and i couldnt get the time of stoppage
it should be on boxrec soon cause they started putting results of the undercards
and sorry again, but it was semo who was cut. zamora knocked him down 2 times in 10th and ref didn't waste his time stopping the fights. i saw 8 and 9 rds and over looked sure as hell

thanks for the props guys, i put an unit on the juicy under odds also and got a lucky break

Even without that cut, I think Booth was going to stop him
He was pounding his body...you called it right
nice under hit !
