how i love thee....
as on most saturdays, i have managed to narrow this card down to my top 42 plays. enjoy.
ohio state (-16.5) 2 units. as all of my devoted readers (both of you!) know, i normally play dogs or small favs. but this is one of the rare games where i fully expect a blowout.
strange but true fact... the big 10 has 3 teams that start with "I" (illinois, indiana, and iowa), more than any other conference.
south carolina (-3) 2 units. seems almost too easy, so i'm treading with care. as bad as uk has been at home, they've been decent in conference on the road (except the one time i played them, against florida). but the gamecocks (or 'cocks', as the kids love to call 'em) are playing much better right now, and i'm sure they'd love nothing more than revenge for their 2-point loss in lexington.
arkansas (pk) 2 units. not sure why, but i continue to go against the gators. i just like the hogs to step up and get a 'w' today.
west virginia (+5) 2 units. if everybody else is going to continue to ride uconn, then i shall continue going against 'em. i see no reason why wv can't come up with as big an effort as 'nova did on monday. not sure if uconn will get 'mike gansied' or 'pittsnogled', but one or the other will get 'em.
tennessee (-1) 2 units. i just don't see this 'bama team as anything special. tennessee is playing great right now. although giving up 89 to auburn kinda worries me. they should get the 'w' here though.
washington state (+3.5) 3 units. oh, i do like the cougars today. i just wish oregon had managed to get the win against washington on thursday... really would have set this up nicely. a patient, well-coached team should be able to handle wazzou with little difficulty. they play great d, but are pathetic on offense. oregon is not a patient, well-coached team. i see them getting very frustrated in this game. the ducks have lost 7 of 8 and haven't won at home since 1/14. should be some value in the under, too.
northern iowa (-6) 3 units. i've been looking forward to this one. everybody here seems to love bucknell. well, lemme tell ya... the bison are solid. if you're not prepared, obviously they can step up and beat you. i don't see the panthers overlooking them though. they will be ready for this game. they snuck into the top 25, and then promptly fell back out. now bucknell is in there. they have what northern iowa wants. the panthers should be focused here, coming off 2 straight losses and their next game is against bradley. so no look-ahead to a more important conference game. this is my biggest bracketbuster play in a year.
youngstown st (+4) 2 units. the penguins, having sniffed respectability, are now scuffling, losing 5 in a row. however, the golden griffs have not won a home game against a non-conference opponent all year. in an ugly game, i just see the penguins putting forth more effort here.
winthrop (-6) 3 units. i really like the eagles today. this is a team that won at marquette and lost at 'bama by 3 and at memphis by 10. they'll be fired up for this game. i just don't see northern illinois taking this game seriously. they have only played 3 non-conference road games, going 1-2. the eagles will show these boys from the mac how they play basketball in the big south.
