And the winner of the backup quarterback derby in Seattle is ? Brady Quinn.

The Seahawks chose the journeyman after bringing four veterans in for workouts. Jason La Canfora reports Quinn gets the contract after the Seahawks also kicked the tires on former Pete Carroll USC quarterback Matt Leinart, Tyler Thigpen and ex-Seahawk Seneca Wallace.

Quinn struggled last season when given opportunities with the Kansas City Chiefs, posting a 60.1 passer rating with two touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The Seahawks moved to add a veteran after trading Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders. It would not be surprising if general manager John Schneider considered a quarterback in the late rounds of the draft. The Seahawks hit it big in the third round a year ago with Russell Wilson.

This just in, Matt Leinart, Tyler Thigpen and Seneca Wallace are all addicted to crack, each has a separated throwing shoulder and these were three of the four players waiting to come out of the closet as that is the only way Brady Quinn could beat out anyone as an NFL QB.

On a more serious note, if you are looking for an edge in picking SF versus Seattle in the NFC West, I think the fact that they picked up Colt McCoy puts the 49'ers over the top. Each team has an active, running QB and you have to believe the back-up will play a key role in part of a game if not actually starting a game or two.
