Crusty Bread (simplysogood)

3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon Instant or Rapid-rise yeast
1 1/2 cups water

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast. Add water and mix until a shaggy mixture forms. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 12 - 18 hours. Overnight works great. Heat oven to 450 degrees. When the oven has reached 450 degrees place a cast iron pot with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, pour dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let set while the pot is heating. Remove hot pot from the oven and drop in the dough. Cover and return to oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack to cool.

You can add sundried tomato, mozzerella, garlic and Rosemary to the mix as well........

How much bread does this make? Think I'll try this with adding some of your suggested ingredients and jalapeno's to the mix.

Jalape?o and sharp cheddar is a wonderful flavor combo in breads. Id use 3 jaleps, removing seeds from 2 of them. Let us know how your version comes out....

Made this for the daily food consumers (I cook for nine people every evening). Couldn't eat any because of the gluten, but it did look and smell delicious! They gave it good reviews.

Will be mixing in some herbs next time.

Thanks!

looks so good.

I was ruined on bread for life, when my great grandmother used to make it from scratch hot out of the oven in
a town close to Canada. We would get up early in the AM and she would have it with butter, jelly , and chicken dumplngs.
We always had chicken because she raised them and it was expensive back then to eat.

When I go to the store I always buy the fresh Italian, sourdough, mountain bread, etc. But it never accomplishs the taste of that homemade bread my grandma used to make.

Looks great to me. I would add basil to it or sundried tomatoes for flavor.
