?He dominated Javier Mora with a quick 46-second knockout in the first round of his last fight, and we know he is ready for his fight against Briggs,? continued De La Hoya.

A 2000 Olympic Silver medalist for Russia, Sultan Ibragamov (20-0-1, 17 KO?s) turned pro in 2002 with a first round knockout of Tracy Williams - in fact, his first four fights ended in opening round victories. He won the WBO Asia-Pacific title in October of 2004 with a third-round knockout against Najee Shaheed. He defended that crown six times.

He has also defeated former world champion Al Cole and contenders Lance Whitaker and Zuri Lawrence.

17 KO in 20 fights, by Sultan, shows what kind of
power he has in both hands. It shows me that Sultan knows how to pursue and get the KO.

Briggs also has a big chance early to KO.

HOLLYWOOD, FL ? With a little over two weeks to go before his long-awaited shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, number one contender Sultan Ibragimov is punishing sparring partners and approaching his physical peak right on schedule for his June 2nd bout against WBO Champion Shannon Briggs.

Now he just hopes Briggs will show up.

?We pray that Briggs? health will allow for him to make it to the fight on June 2nd,? said Ibragimov, who saw his first title shot in March get delayed when Briggs withdrew from the bout due to illness.

?I look forward to this opportunity to show the world that I deserve to be a World Champion,? continued Russian native Ibragimov, who now makes his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ibragimov went on to say, ?I have been training in my gym along side boxing legends Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward. I am honored to have the opportunity to win the World Title in Arturo?s adopted home Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. They have been in big fights such as this one and everyday is a learning experience for me. This will allow me to be a better all around fighter when I step into the ring in two weeks.

Briggs vs Ibragimov, a 12 round WBO Heavyweight Championship bout, is presented by Seminole Warriors Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions in association with Caesars Atlantic City, Golden Grain, Nafta Moskva, Global Advertising Strategies, CSI Sports and Main Events. Tickets for what promises to be the most explosive heavyweight fight of 2007, priced at $300, $200, $150, $100 and $50, are on sale now.
....................................................

Got to wonder if Briggs training regiman is on the up and up for this fight. Seems to me Briggs has alot of trouble taking off the feed bag.

Dedication to training is a important aspect in heavyweight boxing.

Training , I don't need go god damn training.

Sultan Ibragimov is a Russian fighter who is 32 years of age. He is currently ranked #3 in the WBO heavyweight rankings, #5 in the IBF, and #9 in the WBA and is trained by Jeff Mayweather. Ibragimov is part of the trend that shows former Sovient Union states dominating the heavyweight boxing scene in a throwback to Rocky IV. Sultan stands at 20-0-1, with his draw coming on July 28th to Ray Austin in an IBF Heavyweight title eliminator. When Briggs became ill and had to back out of the initial contest between these two scheduled for March 10, 2007, Ibragimov instead faced Javier Mora and knocked him out in 46 seconds.:SIB

WBO heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs (48-4-1, 42 KOs) is not a happy camper. He tells the New Jersey Star-Ledger that he's upset over comments made by Sultan Inbragimov's promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing, and promises to knock Ibragimov's (20-0-1, 17 KOs) head off his shoulders when they collide on June 2 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Briggs was initially slated to face Ibragimov in March, but he caught a bad case of pneumonia and was forced to postpone the fight. Warriors Boxing maintained the position that Briggs pulled out because of fear, and not illness. An accusation that burns Briggs up.

"Warriors put out rumors that I was a coward; that I pulled out of the fight because I was afraid to fight this kid. But this kid's had only 21 fights; I've had 53 fights, 29 first-round knockouts," Briggs said. "I've fought George Foreman, Lennox Lewis and Frans Botha. I beat Sergei Liakhovich for the WBO title, and he was supposed to be one of the best heavyweight champions.

"This fight is personal. It's rare that I'm in the situation I'm in. Leon Margules and Warriors, the way they've treated me as champion, they offered me coach seating to go to the fight. The treatment I've received is ridiculous. ... I'm going to punish (Ibragimov). I'm a vicious puncher. When I touch this little kid on June 2, he's going to wish he'd never touched gloves a day in his life."

"I'm going to knock this kid's head off and hope it falls in Leon's lap at ringside. This is very personal."

Briggs is big (6ft 4ins, around 230lbs, or 16st 6lbs) and can punch, with 24 of his 29 wins coming by KO, against only one loss. But that loss was a shocker, a third-round collapse against Darroll Wilson, a much-smaller heavyweight who, although unbeaten, was not well-regarded. In his very next bout, Wilson was knocked out in one round by David Tua - so where does that put Briggs?:SIB

Such form guides can be misleading, but the harsh facts are that Briggs showed questionable character and a seeming inability to take a heavy shot when Wilson, after coming under heavy fire early, punched back at him.:scared

Hasim Rahman's co-manager, Bob Mittleman,

I call Briggs 'The Tin Man' [referring to The Wizard of Oz character]. He looks good but he's got a tinkle chin and no heart.
:SIB

And if Briggs starts to slow down, if he falters mentally, he could find himself instantly in trouble.

But Briggs comes into the enigma category. There is no doubt that he has talent, fast hands and can punch. He starts fast, as his 17 first-round knockouts indicate, but his physical and psychological staying power have to be questioned. In his last fight, for instance, he struggled against the strong but ordinary former body-builder, Jorge Valdez, before winning in nine rounds. Although Briggs dominated the fight, he allowed himself to get backed up on the ropes and seemed to be getting hit by left hooks a bit too often for comfort although he grinned them off.:SIB

Valdes is rather a small heavyweight at under 5ft 11ins, and not what you would call a serious puncher, so perhaps Briggs allowed himself the luxury of a lackadaisical night. Still, it was not an impressive performance.

Indeed, there seems to be a pattern with Briggs that if he does not get the other man out of there in a hurry, he has a tendency to perform in a pedestrian, uninspired manner.:00hour

Teddy Atlas, a disciplinarian type of trainer, felt that Briggs was becoming self-indulgent and spoiled, and, Teddy being Teddy, expressed his views in a strong way, which led to a parting of the ways.:SIB

"I don't think he wants to fight," Atlas has said of Briggs, suggesting (in an interview with a New Jersey newspaper) that the young heavyweight would "rather make his money doing other things while still being called a boxer".:scared

These other things are acting (he had a small part in a TV series called New York Undercover) and rap music. Briggs says these things give life extra excitement, that he still loves boxing. But many people in the boxing business are not convinced.:SIB

The biggest knock against Briggs in the trade is that, in the words of veteran New Jersey manager-trainer Al Certo, he "never learned to fight uphill", which means that he has never had to reach within himself, find reserves of heart and commitment, and come back from calamity. In the only fight in which he got seriously tested - against Darroll Wilson - he fell apart.:142smilie

Briggs has been able to enjoy a life of some opulence. Atlas felt that Briggs had the fruits of success without having earned them and said in an interview with Michael Katz of the New York Daily News at the time of the break-up: "They might as well have given him a belt as Future Heavyweight Champion of the World.":nono:

Briggs, 25, talks of a new beginning. But there are those who follow boxing who believe him to be a front runner who can dish it out but not take it, one who simply lacks the true grit ever to be a genuinely outstanding fighter. Boston Globe boxing writer Ron Borges noted around the time that Briggs dropped Teddy Atlas: "If Briggs could fight as well as Atlas can train, he'd be somebody. Which he isn't."

I think he knows he isn't as good a fighter as me. I would have knocked him out in the first round but I was exhausted in the second round. It was the biggest fight of my life, on HBO, so you think I'm not going to train?"

And what of the rap against him that he hasn't, as they say, beaten anybody? "I think my last fight, with Jorge Valdes [a nine rounds TKO win in June] was a big accomplishment for me because he'd just been 10 rounds with Axel Schulz, he was training really hard for me, he was really looking forward to beating me," Briggs said.
...........................................................

Its funny how articles from 10 years ago when Briggs was 25 , can give me the information I need to make a winning play on this fight.

If I fight him, I?m going to knock him right out, Round One. I?m going to aim for his ****ing head.

I have read this over and over in Briggs background and history. It is very hard to escape
from this mentality as a fighter.

The smarter fighter will win. Time for the Sultan to graduate and get his degree.

Brigg's size and physical strength can be negated by Ibragimov?s good movement and superior quickness. Brigg's can hit with the right hand but Ibragimov so far has shown a reliable chin.

Against Whitaker, whom he dropped three times before winning in the seventh, I was impressed with Ibragimov?s high punchrate and use of the ring. He landed a lot of punches, especially to the body, then moved out of the way, and Whitaker looked slow and lumbering.

Although Brigg's is a big, tough, heavy-handed man, he is not exceptional and he can be hit fairly easily. The smaller Ibragimov?s speed of movement and faster hands can be a major factor. If he boxes the way he did against Whitaker, getting off with punches and then moving out, he can build up points and perhaps wear down Brigg's and get in his head.

As long as Ibragimov?s chin and stamina hold up ? he should be able to outbox and outscore Brigg's.

Sultan's showing against Austin, who Klit wasted was none too impressive. Austin definitely caught him clean when he knocked him down.. Austin somehow figured out Sultan and had him baffled. What about his fight against Friday Ahunaya-whatever. That's a tough journeyman and I heard he gave the Russian a lot of trouble. No done deal if you ask me.. I was happy to take Sultan and the under's against fricken Mora and Whittaker but not feeling it yet. Love to get some inside info on Briggs camp..

Probably find him in a swimming pool drinking
coolers and eating barbecue everyday.

The drops are equal.

What I take from this is the money is close to even on the fight.

This is on Pay Per View for 29.95 and I have my order in. I think it will be one of the more entertaining heavyweight fights of 2007

Sponge

Did you pay to see De La Hoya and Meriweather the fight of the century. Not me.... I slept right through that 12 round epic. And won the money.

I know the fights that are worth paying for.

Will you pay to see Hoylfield vs Lou Savarese ?

Did you know in the UK they do not even have the opportunity on PPV to see this
WBO Heavyweight Boxing Championship fight ?

I am hyping this fight because it is going to be a dramatic war and may go down like Joe Frazier did.
Remember when Joe did that little hop skip and jump step when he got hit by Foreman. ?

Besides that I am getting a percentage of the PPV.
So please tune in.:SIB

And thank you for not rooting against me in this fight, its the least you can do. :SIB
Geez Louise.

Down Goes Frazier ! Down Goes Frazier. !

Just one look at that belt Briggs is wearing tells me that he will enter
the fight at about 290 lbs.

Briggs assistant was going out to get Briggs a belt last week. What size do you want me to get ?

Briggs - Get one of those huge ones that don't have no holes in it. The kind that would fit around a baby elephant if need be.
