Bring Back the Draft?

I think I might like the idea. I did not get drafted I went in on my own. But maybe some these folks are right. At this point in time there is one person in our military. That is ONE that has a Father that is either on Bushs staff a member of Congress or a Senator. What the chit there kids to dame good to defend the home land?
Lets get some in there and not easy sit on your ass desk jobs.

First of all, my brother, who is a press secretary in the Senate, says that is a completely inaccurate statement. Off the top of his head he could name a half dozen. So lets get our facts straight first. And by the way, for better or for worse, there are a lot of guys/gals in Congress 60-70+ years of age. That would make their sons/daughters 40/50 or even older. So no, I am guessing not many of those are left in the military

But let me guess you dont have kids of your own, or at least kids that arent of draftable age. Tell me you would want your 18 year old son, against his will, drafted into the army. Sure thing.

yea bring back the draft....it`ll make everybody more discipline.....joining the service made me a better person(seriously)...but thats just my opionion

You would like to think that. But in my MBA program I took a class called The Economics of Defense Policy taught by one of the higher ups in the Pentagon on staff at GW. In it he showed numerous ways to prove that conscription hurts a military and an economy in the long run through lowered morale and willingness to give 110% on the battlefield.

I was opposed to the draft in the Sixties and I'm still opposed to it. By the way, my lottery number was 311. If you don't know what that means then you should do some research before you suggest re-instating the draft.

Basically, it's not fair. The poorer you are the more likely you are to be drafted. And draftees don't make highly motivated soldiers - VietNam proved that point. I'm not saying they're bad people, I had lots of friends who were drafted, but all they were concerned with was staying alive and getting home - winning the f*cking war was not high on the list.

Like I said I might like the idea. I did not need the draft. I thought it was right thing to go in on my own wishes.
Acehistr8 Info I gave you came from your favorite news network Fox. As for my kids. My Son already has been in and out of the service. He just turned 37. If I was young had another son and the country needed him. I would strongley suggest he join. I only ask for others that ducked the draft in the 60's. To not have the chance to run and hide this time around. By the way the military can be a very rewarding carrier.
Acehistr8 good point about all those old farts in congress. Maybe that tells us the need for term limits. I can see up to age 65 like most companies. Cant see how some them 80 and even 90 year olds are doing anything but collecting checks. Just living off us tax payiers. But good point some those old farts someone says war and thet say hell yes. What they got to lose nothing.

Ok perhaps i'll get thrashed for this but I have trouble backing a position of supporting a mandatory military service in a country that is based on freedom. Freedom to serve or not. An exception would be of course World War Two when the world was clearly on the brink.

compulsory gov't service - military or civilian, your choice - at age 18 or after hs graduation, whichever occurs last.
