If your kids saw it, just tell them that nothing really went on because the dancer is a smoker. It's all made up and fictional. Then you can explain to them what a smoker is and what they like.

Might as well cover all the bases in one fell swoop.

Britney Spears' antics?
Parents?
Britney's parents?
Responsiblity to fans??

I'm sorry, is everyone here that naive??

No-one thinks the record label/advertising/publisity people etc. etc. have anything to do with it!!

No such thing as bad publicity people.

She is kin to the drug pusher who hangs around the elementary school only she is using sex to sell her records.

Damn, I hope that was an April Fools comment!

Who buys the records then? Sorry, but I don't believe there are that many 12-16 yo. girls with well paying part time jobs. Someone's buying these albums, and it ain't the kiddies ;)

Well, I can tell you that no grown men are buying Brittany Spears music and I highly doubt adult women are either. Now who does that leave? It ain't Granny. Get serious.

The point, ocelot, is that these children aren't buying the albums. Their parents quite clearly are. (The vast majority anyway).
While the records keep selling in the mass amounts they are now, she (and her label) have a licence to keep doing what they are doing.
Seems to be working, right?
By your own arguements you (everyone, not you specifically) imply that every Britney album bought for a child has been purchased by an irresponcible parent/guardian.

Fine, if you don't want your children to view/listen to anything then don't let them.
If enough people stop buying her products, she is either forced to change or her record company makes her go away and they bring through the next teen girl/pop idol.

Simple economics...No huge Britney sexual conspiracy

It seems strange anyone would care to listen to her. Does anyone understand her words. Can you makeout what ever the hell she is mumbling. You call that singing. As for parents. They should have a understanding what there kids are watching. Remember these are kids that grow up like everyone does. Then they can watch the real porn like mom and dad do. But this show she put on reminds me of the B movies of the 50.60.70's. It sucked.

I could have easily got into this thread way more than I am going to, but the bottom line is we "as parents" live in a society today that has made it harder and harder for parents to raise children!

I certainly found that show Brittney did a little surprising and Madonna like, however it is pretty obvious that she unlike many other teen idols, WILL" NOT" BE GOING AWAY anytime soon!!!!!!!!!!Her Maddona like transformation will help her to stick around.............UNFORTUNATELY!

I disagree with you guys on a few things here.............I personally would rather my dauhters buy a Brittney CD than some of the other garbage out there

 even though her preformance was in the least NASTY her lyrics still remain way more wholesome than LITTLE KIM, EVE, or TRINA Brittneys songs include lyrics about broken hearts, falling in love , being a woman, and living a sheltered life...........unlike the other 3 I mentioned off of the top of my head those songs sing "if you want to call it that" about drugs , guns, thug life, there own coochies, and of course the donka, donk, donk.................On a flip note there really isn't much left for kids to listen to today................ But was there ever???

Just the other day I was in my car with my 16 year old daughter whom I frequently check in to listen to her music . I had a rock and roll station on...............LOL needlesss to say BIG BALLS by AC/DC came on  my kid looked at me and said (yeh mom this "IS" much better than what I listen to) :D The only thing we can do as parents is filter out as much garbage as we can . I have 4 teenagers and it is becoming harder and harder to do that!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe I am about to say this , but when we were younger , or better yet when I was younger my music consisted of BIG BALLS lol drugs , suicide and getting wasted ...............We witnessed stuff like ozzy biting off a bats head , Alice Cooper killing a chicken , Jim Morrison pissing on stage and so on.............

Brittneys' show was shocking to say the least, but this type of garbage has been around for long long time in some form or another and there really isn't anything we can do about it...............

As parents today we can only do our best to see to it that our children have the best up bringing that we can possibly give them, guide them, teach them, and then sit quietly, (WELL THATS NOT TRUE I'M NEVER QUIET!) like our parents did befor us with our fingers crossed and prayers flowing threw our minds in hopes that when they are out there on there own they make the right decisions and make it home safe .............Thats what I do EVERY weekend...............SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!

Placing blame  pointless IMO

You may want to brush up on your Britney...Any idea what the song...

A touch of my hand is about ????

Listen to that one, and 'plain that one to the kiddies...

I'd rather try to teach..DRUGS = bad

than try to explain about strokin the salami, etc...

There is no comparing the overall lyrics from a Britney to a Lil Kim for instance.

T, absolutely agree with you. Seems the extra problem parents today have to contend with is that now is that the video is there to back up the the music. In the 70s there were the lyrics but now the lyrics are accompanied by soft porn videos. In addition the corporate suits are increasingly sophisticated in mainstreaming the sleaze to our kids.

We have the V-chip set on TV-14 in our home even though we have a 15 and 17 year old. We will probably keep it on when they leave home because frankly it keeps a lot of low-class brain-dead drivel off screen.
