I love this move by Dooley:toast:

BROWN WILL NOT BE RELEASED FROM SCHOLARSHIP BY DOOLEY

Bryce Brown is welcome to enroll at Kansas State or anywhere else he might choose.

But the former Tennessee running back will have to pay his own way next season.

Citing three main areas of evaluation, Vols coach Derek Dooley confirmed late Friday night that Brown will not be released from his scholarship - and the fact his request was made in a text message appears to have little to do with the ultimate decision.

"As with the other players who have asked for a release, I went through the same process with the same criteria with Bryce," Dooley said. "These are the three key factors - what their personal investment into the program was, did they have their heart into it and did they give it a good, fair shot. No. 2, the harm that their departure creates for the organization. No. 3, how they handle it as a professional.

"I've done that with every one of these guys -- with Aaron (Douglas), with Todd Campbell, with Nick Stephens, Nick Lamaison and now Bryce. So now my decision based on those three factors with Bryce is not to release him."

Brown doesn't need to be released to transfer to Kansas State and likely

I'm sorry for cluttering forum. I meant to add this to the existing Brown thread.

Cie - From a distance, I can see how many would think this was a good move by Dooley, but he was less than honest about the entire situation, and I have been behind Dooley from Day 1.

Dooley indicated on three separate occasions last week that he and Brown never met and that Brown asked for his release via a text message. He and Brown did in fact meet on the Saturday following SEC media days, where Brown was instructed to keep it quiet.

Now, I have said all along that I would have not allowed Brown back on the team because he didn't go to spring practice. However, Dooley kept saying it was going to be a "players decision" which I thought was a cop out, plain and simple.

Having said that, I have always found it "bush league" to not grant a release to a player who doesn't want to be there. A coach can leave in the middle of the night to make millions, but a player who might be dirt poor, not only has to sit out a year, but try to find a way to pay for a year of school?

Dooley has asked for a $9 million dollar increase for the new weight room, which was already scheduled to be $30 million. He has also hinted at replacing the natural grass with field turf which doesn't make much sense when you have our climate and men who take care of that field.

He might want to win a few games before he starts throwing millions of dollars around. He might have been a lawyer, but he still ain't the judge

Shame on Dooley for lying about the matter. Sorry to read this, as it seems quite possible that Dooley will be an eventual candidate at LSU if he has any success in Knoxville.

That said, it would take alot for me not to believe that Brown was being paid for his services in Knoxville in one way or another, and the manner in which Brown carried himself since his days as a recruit has not won him much support. I think whatever Brown gets is what he deserves.

I think it is just petty that he won't release him. I mean it is K. St. for crying out loud. A release with the exception of SEC schools and USC would have been understood. I just don't get what he is trying to prove here.
