The Boston Bruins are sending Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars for fellow forward Loui Eriksson as part of a seven-player trade.

In addition to Eriksson, the Bruins are also acquiring forwards Matt Fraser, Reilly Smith and defenseman Joe Morrow in the deal announced Thursday. Dallas will receive Seguin, forward Rich Peverley and defenseman Ryan Button.

Seguin, chosen with the No. 2 pick by Boston in the 2010 draft, led the Bruins in scoring during the 2011-12 season. He was a member of the 2011 Stanley Cup championship team and was selected as an All-Star in 2012.

Eriksson, a 2011 All-Star, had 29 points in 48 games for the Stars last season. He has a career plus-31 rating.

Edmonton Oilers trade Shawn Horcoff to the Dallas Stars

The Edmonton Oilers made the first big trade of Craig MacTavish?s tenure as general manager on Thursday, dealing team captain Shawn Horcoff to the Dallas Stars.

TSN?s top duo of Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger broke the news via Twitter, reporting that the trade involved multiple pieces and draft picks.

The Horcoff trade was seen as inevitable in Edmonton, after MacTavish made it clear that the ?ideal scenario? for the team was the departure of both Horcoff and fellow long-time Oilers Ales Hemsky. The move, depending on return, frees up cap space and moves a lightning rod of fan criticism out of the market.

Eriksson provides value relative to the salary cap....very good 2 way player that fits the bruins style, peverlay will be missed for face-offs but his salary cap # was too high.
