Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Teaser: Green Bay(-1) w/ New England (-7)
- - McCarthy and his staff give a solid ride of the thoroughbred under their saddle as the Packers show which is the underrated team in 2007 and Seattle is reminded it should have closed the deal on its Super Bowl in 2005.

Indianapolis(-10) over San Diego (1*)
- - The story last week was QB Rivers free to stand forever in the pocket and wait for receivers to come wide open deep down field, and the result was a 17-6 snuffing of an injury-riddled opponent; Rivers will be forced to do a lot more than that today. The coaching staff on the San Diego sideline was also worked up most of the game, and it didn't impress me with the look of a cool operation if under a 60 minute assault in a hostile environment; baby steps won't get it done today . . . Indy has defended their crown with the poise and verve they demonstrated in seizing a championship, and even without Freeney's major contributions, I like the explosiveness of a rested champ in making far more big plays in their final game under the RCA Dome.

- - Insurance against.
As I have frequently noted, I post "plays" when the Packers are involved - beginning in Week #1, it's far too important to me for "wagering" - adding -

Green Bay(-7) over New York Giants (1 Biscuit)

- - Matchups are big on championship Sundays . . . My capping sees a dog given no chance in their minds having designs on something very competitive, if Rivers at QB doesn't bury them.

- - I lost my enthusiasm for capping this game when the Packers lost, but I've gone back and forth without investing much time in research . . . Can the Giants rough up Brady so his targets are not easy ones . . . Can the Giants make some big stops when New England pushes the envelope on 4th downs . . . San Diego looked like they could play all game without threatening the end zone; the Giants have the full complement of weapons to punch it in the end zone when opportunities present themselves . . . Will the Giants be sharp and focused enough to keep favorable down and distance situations in order against a Pats defense that will be put on its heels and have to rally against a top flight offense . . . Was John Madden right in the Philadeplhia vs. New England game in observing that the Pats will not be beat on the perimeter in the passing game . . . most importantly, can the Giants follow the formula of staying in the game the first half . . . ? ? ? ?
