With a headset or mic, speakers and the right software, you can place phone calls over the interent and some calls, to any place in the world might even be free of charge.


Make calls 'on the house':


Phonefree.com (www.phonefree.com) will let you download the software you need to make free calls from your computer to another computer. The only catch is the other computer must the same software installed. If the other person is not online when you call you are able to leave a voice mail. Phonefree lets yah make conference calls and also block calls.

You can also reach people on their phone using your computer. While the calls aren't free you can get some real cool deals compared to regular telephone charges.


Dialpad (www.dialpad.com) A great choice if you do a lot of calling within the United States. The rate is based on the numer of calls you make but it could be as low as 1.7 cents per minute.International rates vary but are very low.

Net2phone (www.net2phone.com) offers call within the Unitd States at 2 cents per minute and international rates as low as 3 cets per minute.


iConnectHere (www.iconnecthere.com) has similar rates, but if yah want to receive calls your computer must have Windows 2000 or Windows XP O.S.


Face to face video calling:

You can hear and see the person you're calling. Video cameras connected to both computers make this possible.

You can also use Phonefree.com to make free video calls Visitalk (www.visitalk.com) also offers audio and video telephone service for a very low monthly rate. (check for current rates but they were as low as $19.95 a year. Check their wedsites for the hardware and software rquirements.

thanks, but I have used these services before and I was unhappy with the quality.

I already put in my request to disconnect my phone this week. I probably will get vonage. I have heard from several people who have it on my same ISP and others who don't and love it.
