Well, the point of the question was not really literally whether it makes a sound or not, but to posit a question that is similar to the one s-murphy asked (as an unanswerable question).
As a human being I do assume some form of ego, just as every person in the world does. As an agnostic existentialist, I will try to provide a brief explanation of why you cannot prove that the tree makes a sound. This is probably WAY over your head, Agent, but I will give it a try...
The world is not exactly as we perceive it, since everyone's perceptions are different - it cannot really be a consistent world. A person hears a tree fall and they feel this vibration on their eardrums and mentally interpret this vibration as a sound. In other words, our brains interpret the stimuli. So in a way, even if you are there when the tree falls, it does not make a sound, because it is only your mind that is interpreting the vibrations in the air to be a noise. Therefore if you aren't there, there is no vibration to interpret at all, and therefore, no sound.
