OK Mr Balls let me tell you all I learned about O/U while I lived in Vegas gambling Professionally. Ill try to make this story as long as possible...LOL
when I got out of College I had saved up 20 grand to pursue my dream of moving to Vegas and gambling. You know young,dumb and invincible so I was going to Vegas a bust that whole city.LOL
The second day I was there I was in a bar in Cesar Palace watching an NFG game I had 300 dollars on yelling when they scored and all that Blah,Blah when this guy who with his wife had been sitting at the other end on the bar walks over to me and says Your from the South aren't you and I naturally said yes its easy to tell with this red neck accent Im carrying around and I just moved here. He says my name is Gary Austin and I have hundreds if not thousands of Southern Clients and no one in the office from the south.If you ever consider working at Sports Service I would love to talk to you. Well I knew who the hell Gary Austin was and I couldn't believe Im talking to the biggest gambler in history and he is offering me a f**king job. Damn the biggest Gambler in the world is offering this Red neck from SC a Job. I told to give me his card and I would see him at 8:00 in the Morning. This was in the 70s and long before all the Boilerrooms and scammers who turned the Sports Service business into a bad name came around.
I was there at 8 oclock and it was the best job I ever had. All his clients from the South and there were thousands of them wanted to talk to someone from the south and not someone with a New York Yankee accent and I fit the bill.He gave me my nom de guerre and Buddy Wright was born. In two years I talked to every Whale not just in the US but the whole World.I didn't just like my job I loved it.It was a dream come true for me especially when we went on winning streaks that would last for months and our clients would win millions and millions of dollars. I opened my own Sports Service several years later and because of all the contacts I had made was quite successful.
The reason Im giving you this little background bio is because I wanted you to know Im not some guy in his Mother and Daddys basement typing on the internet that he is betting 10 dimes a game.LOL
I don't know if this will help you are not but the first thing you need to know is how they figure the O/U line. The guys that set the O/U line are taking all the sores that the team has accumulated during the season. Now these are scores of home field, against winning teams, against high average scoring teams, against good defenses etc.,etc and they come up with a scoring average. say in the Penn St- Ga. game they come up with a scoring average of 18.5 which is 37 the they add 7 and you have a total of 44 O/U. Why do they add 7? Because the normal human being doesn't want to bet UNDER on a game.They rather pull for every one to score as its more exciting than pulling for no one to score. Human nature and that's why most O/U bets are OVER. The O/U line is always shaded 7 points up to give the Books a slight edge on the Over.
Now as soon as you saw an O/U of 44 a red flag should have come up for you. Why didn't they make it 65 or 68? Because the SOB don't average a score of but 18 f**king points in a game of similar or equal situations. I bet if you had known how the line was determined you would have thought about betting an OVER against two teams that don't score but 18 f**king points a game huh???? Look over the board at the O/U and see where they set the lines of 44,48.51 low O/U and damn if they didn't score 40 or 45 points or even lower.Look at the 73 O/U and see where usually those teams scored 80 or more points. why because they score a lot of f**king points bro. Here is what Im trying to get across. The lower the line the lower points those teams USUALLY score. Never bet an OVER on a low line. Yea sometimes they have a blow out but the key phrase here is sometimes..LOL If your going to bet OVER bet a high ass line like 71 or 73 and if your going to bet UNDER bet a low line like a 41. Look over the Bowl scores and I believe you will see I know what Im talking about.Low lines low scores high lines high scores. Each event is different so you don't just bet under when the line is 41 but you need to lean that way when you do your research to make your bet.
There is a whole lot of shit I would like to tell you about gambling but Ill be lucky to get this many words posted so I have made it as simple as I could. I have a feeling if I had posted this before you bet OVER 44 you wouldn't have bet it or at least thought about it more.
Remember at the beginning of the season they aren't too sporty on the O/U but as the season wears on they real sporty with that O/U line. Remember this post the next time you want to bet UNDER on a 73 point line or OVER on a 40 point line late in the season...LOL

GoodLuck

For you guys not familiar with football terms the Mike is the middle linebacker.When you see the QB pointing across the line he is usually pointing where the Mike is lining up or if a CB has moved in beside him which is showing a possible blitz.

Great read Buddy. Please do post some more war stories. So what are your thoughts on O/U 51 in big game? I guess they are asking for over money and they will get it I'm sure. Call me a sucker, but I like over. Both teams can score and a lot of Saban's recent bowl games ended with fairly high total scores.

My only question about the totals is if the contrast or similar styles of offensive play/defensive play, play into a factor?

Godamn it I hate O/U plays. Why because Im not as good at picking them as I am with picking games. I make my money on who beats whom but I started this so lets finish it.

This game is going to be the best teams each has played this year. bamma is going to have to figure out how to stop Clemsons mobile QB. and that means putting the MIKE on him.When you do that that opens up the middle for passes and takes a man off Defensive pass plays. Going to be a hard chore for bamma.
Clemson hasnt played a team with this good of a Defense and I mean good Defense.

Lets pick out similar matchups
Bama
AUB =29-13=42
TENN=19-14=43
ARK=27-14=51
FLA=29-15=44

CLEMSON
OKLA=37-17=54
FSU=23-13=36
BC=34-17=51

Now what do you see??? Bamma 13,14,14,15 CLEMSON 17,13,17 SCORED AGAINST
Now you know where the hell they came up with a 53 O/U 23 points apiece. That line has now dropped to 51 so somebody likes the UNDER.ummmmh
If they both score 4 touchdowns the OVER is made. Now do you think they can score 4 touchdowns each???? The guys that figure these lines out is the Naval Observatory they have Doctorate degrees in f**king Einstien Math and have been setting lines since 1940 so they are very,very good at what they do.

High side looks like 37-29 realistically looks more like 23-21 too me. GA was no match for Bamma 38-10 and GT was no match for Clemson 43-24. Both those O/U were 51

Looks like an under 51 too me unless Clemson can score in the 30s but I suck at O/Us LOL

Oh yea the most points scored on Bamma this year was 23 by A&M and the next highest was 16 by LSU.

GoodLuck

Tennessee gave Alabama all they wanted. Both Vols/Tigers have good defenses and excellent dual-threat quaeterbacks.

Buddy is Gary Austin a STIFF ? :scared

Gary Austin is an old school tout that sports illustrated did a article on in 1980 and that same year he appeared on NBC?s Today Show with Tom Brokaw. The media portrayed him as a sports betting god and many paid $100 to $150 (a lot of money in 1980) to purchase his picks. If you think Gary Austin just retired in the mid 1980?s and disappeared, you?re wrong. Actually, he went on to run Gary Austin?s Sportsbook on the Las Vegas Strip which he claims was robbed, but most feel he lost players phone-in bank deposits gambling on Game 6 of the 1985 World Series. His sports book closing down and stiffing players for over $1 million dollars is what many feel put the nail in the coffin for independent Las Vegas bookmakers.

LOL Vinnie at one time he owned ALL of the SPORTS BOOKS in Vegas. Yes he ran into an ass load of problems with the IRS but his main problem was with THE MOB. Everyone in Vegas knew he wasnt robbed just like Benny Binion used to get ROBBED every 3 or 4 years but after that event he packed up and split. That 150 a week for his picks was when The professor bought his name and ran a Boilerroom scam deal which pretty much ran his name in the ground which wasnt worth much by then anyway. The professor was the Al Pacino character portrayed in the movie Two for the Money written by another scammer brandon lang who wrote the screen play and used the Professors life as Pacinos character .

The Professor started the sports service scams at one time owning 15 or 16 services with all different names. Gary had been long gone for years by then. When Gary ran his sports service his rate was 2000 a month and he ran a clean business....a lot of money back then. I know for a fact he had anywhere from 2 to 6 million a week in action for himself almost all of it out of town with the BOYS.. Hell there is a Book in New York that takes as much Action in one week than Vegas does all year...LOL

yea when Gary left he was ruined and when the scammers got though using his name it was destroyed.
Ruined if you consider leaving town with about 50 mill ruined..LOL

You will never hear me say anything bad about Gary Austin who once was the god of gaming and a hell of a nice dude.

If Im not mistaken I believe you and I had a discussion about Gary several years ago??? GL on your games Vinnie
