Bull Durham and Cooperstown

Interesting, Cooperstown was planning on hosting the 15 year reunion of all the folks involved in the movie Bull Durham. However, they have called it off stating the reason is the political/anti W views that Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon have is the reason.

I haven't heard what all Tim and Susan have had to say, but I'm sure it's the same old tired Michael Mooreish rhetoric. Not sure I agree with calling off this reunion ceremony, however. What's everybody think?

well 6/5, i've staked myself out in this forum as a pro-military, pro-commander-in-chief and, with guarded caution, in support of the war. sarandon and robbins are both ok as actors, but pretty much the usual martin sheen-like peacenik bush bashers who are somewhat removed from my perspective. with all that said, i've gotta say that cancelling the event so as not to take the chance of giving them a forum i consider completely chicken-sh*t and downright unamerican. are they telling me there is some test of political correctness required now for the hall of fame? if our guys are over there fighting for the right of iraqis to stand up in public and say, "saddam sucks," i think any american has the right to stand up and say "bush sucks." hall of fame president petroskey was tied to the administrations of the reagan and the elder bush, and is just using his authority in a cheesy manner imo.

i may disagree with what you say, but i will defend to the death your right to say it.

I think it is bs baseball and the war should not be mixed. It should be stated that no talk about war be spoken and agreed on which i am sure it would not of been brought up. Because it was the real life like story of being on that circut with the old bus old fields still like that fields and bus are a little better in some of a ball and the locals love their team. It should go on. Thought this was a very bad call when i heard it last night or the night before.

This is the life of what it is really like, baseball, small town bars and local women. with a few fights each year over a women between players , you cannot get a better movie about the life of that circut like i said. real as it got and gets still in the a ball and aa teams in the south.

hey if Robbins has the freedom to say what he wants then the president of the HOF has the freedom to do what he wants....

certain repercussions result from our actions....Robbins is reaping what he has sewn......

now i have a ticket to go see Dixie CHicks which i purchased 2 months ago...cant get my $$ back but you can bet i will be booing them til my voice gets tired and they are in for a rude awakening when they come to Houston they will probably be booed off the stage

I don't disagree with the clear fact that the HOF has the right to dump Sarandon, Robbins, et al. I just wish they had risen above that level and not have been so petty in dumping the whole thing. This is baseball, not politics. However, actors and celebrities need to realize that there are repercussions for one's actions. Nevertheless, I believe the HOF acted prematurely and immaturely by doing what they did.

Of course they have the right to do whatever they want, but it is just hypocritical to cancel a ceremony based on someone's beliefs "in support of America". Clearly it is a political move because the man who cancelled the celebration served in the Reagan administration (at least that's what I read, admittedly I am not 100% sure) and allegedly he has ties to Bush.

On a side note, I love Bull Durham. Probably the best sports movie I have seen. Oh, and SixFive, great to see you. I will drop you an email next time I log on to mine. Hope all is well.

C'mon now, Clint. You know darned well I am not a left wing looney like that. I do lean that way on some major topics but definitely not all.

I haven't been around much lately because I am trying to concentrate on writing for a while. An email protoge of mine got himself a literary agent and a 21 year old friend of mine just had a screenplay optioned and moved to the Hills so I realized it's time to put a real effort into writing and stop procrastinating so much.

You have got to come out to L.A. I am quite sure that you will find it to be a complete asylum unless you go to O.C. with all the rest of the right wingers. I almost think that I would fit in better in the ol' K-Y than you would in SoCal.

well then its a political move for Robbins to use his soap box to go against war....he is a longtime supporter of dems and the HOF guy is a long time supporter of Repubs....Dems dont like it when Repubs play hardball but Dems do it all the time...thats what Repubs IMO need to start doing...do same things back to them that they do

both guys did/are doing the same thing....i dont see anything wrong with either of them.....can boycott/support his movies and other people can put pressure on/support the hall of fame if they do or dont like it....thats how things work...repercussions exist if you get out on your soapbox and say your views.....

I heard something about the Marshall Tucker band will honor Dixie Chunk tickets take a look @ their site and shoot them an email (http://www.marshalltucker.com/cgi-bin/tuck/tour.html?id=ZQyDS9vM) they are playing in College Station and Lake Charles pretty soon.

when these hollywood morons speak out and denegrate the administration(and believe me,it`s ALL ABOUT THE ADMINISTRATION),it`s freedom of speech.......when someone vehemently disagrees,it`s mccarthyism.....you can`t have it both ways....i`ll tell you this,if i was at that ceremony and robbins was there,we`d talk face to face,if i had the opportunity....and i`m sure i`m not the only one.....maybe the hof honchos didn`t want to see this ceremony turn into a fiasco....even if robbins gave his word to shut his yap,and stuck to it,there`s no guarantee someone else wouldn`t take the opportunity to exercise their first amendment rights......when you make yourself one of the central figures in a hotbed issue,there`s bound to be repercussions......what`s good for the goose....you can`t pick and choose...the hof was just covering their ass...if that embarrassed robbins,great...
