Subject: From the Principal Regarding Rumor
Sent: Thu, Dec 20, 2012 1:45:24 PM
You may or may not be aware of rumors about tomorrow (Friday) and the possibility of a student bringing a gun to school to shoot students due to it being the end of the Mayan calendar and the end of the world. I want to assure you that we have heard them as well. I fully understand how stressful and emotional this news can be to parents and students, so we wanted to share with you what we have for you in regards to East High School;
For tomorrow there will be an increased police presence and we will increase our supervision as well. Another idea I would like to put out there is an offer to any of you who would like to come in as additional supervision. We would be open to any amount of time that you could provide. Something similar to this has been done in the past here at East and parents had cookies to serve to the students in the hallways. (I do realize that this is late notice for something involving food) The point is that by working together we can help provide an additional layer of safety and comfort for our students. If you are interested in assisting with supervision, please let Ginger Smith know.
Some additional information is listed below;
1) Deans have been working on information provided to us by students. They spent all day yesterday and continue to do so. Students are our best resource and we want to encourage them to continue to provide information to adults in the building. Please encourage your student to talk to an adult in the building if they feel they have information that is important for the school to know.
2) The police are also assisting us with the investigation and are very involved
3) Central office and Dr. Quick are aware of the rumors and working with us as well.
4) We are not the only school in the country dealing with this same rumor. The police have found this same rumor now in at least 8 other states.
Again, we are here to work together to support your student's success. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions.
Thanks,
