Speaking after today?s practice, Siena coach Mitch Buonaguro urged fans to come out to see the Saints play Iona on Monday night at Times Union Center.
The way Buonaguro sees it, the Saints will need all the support they can get against the Gaels, who beat them by 36 points at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 3.
?It?s a team that the people in Albany should come out and see,? Buonaguro said. ?It?s one of the better mid-major teams in the country.?
Then Buonaguro made a Biblical reference, perhaps fitting in a meeting of two Catholic schools.
?It?s a game where, if you?re a basketball fan, the David and Goliath aspect of it is interesting, not that I?m ?,? Buonaguro said.
Asked if that means Siena is David, Buonaguro laughed and said, ?Yeah, I mean, but we?re going to need a lot of help in this game from the fan base and from everybody. I know our guys will really take the challenge on.?
The Gaels (15-4, 7-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) are coming off a 91-71 rout of Rider on Friday night.
