President says lawmakers need to pass financial rescue package quickly and relatively intact to stem damage to global markets.

..............................................................

Does anyone else get to feeling a big queasy when you read that Bush wants something signed pronto .

If this were me I would look into this deep as you could be giving away the farm and not know it buried deep in page 1655 in small print.

Why can I not trust my President.

Cheney has never done anything to hurt me in the past :scared

President Bush again pressed for quick action Monday on a $700 billion government bailout plan for Wall Street, but some key Democrats urged a more deliberate approach as negotiations continue.
The uncertainty helped send the Dow Jones industrial average down almost 200 points at mid-day.

Bush issued a statement at the White House saying "the whole world is watching" how the U.S. government addresses the continuing turmoil in the worldwide financial markets, as investors await more details about the government's plan to buy banks' mortgage debt.

Anxious lawmakers have vowed cooperation but insisted that any rescue include more government accountability, aid troubled homeowners and prevent Wall Street executives at taxpayer-aided firms from reaping generous payouts.

Quick quick quick, sign it , hurry hurry hurry.

Uh dont worry too much George, the world pretty much thinks America is a bunch of stupid

The nation's economic woes appear to be taking a toll on McCain.

WASHINGTON (CNN) ? A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll suggests that by a 2-to-1 margin, Americans blame Republicans over Democrats for the financial crisis that has swept across the country the past few weeks ? one factor that may have contributed to an apparent increase in Barack Obama?s edge over John McCain in the race for the White House.

In the new survey, released Monday afternoon, 47 percent of registered voters questioned say Republicans are more responsible for the problems currently facing financial institutions and the stock market, with 24 percent saying Democrats are more responsible. One in five of those polled blame both parties equally, and 8 percent say neither party is to blame.

Watch: No 'blank check' for Wall Street Obama says

The poll also indicates that more Americans think Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, would do a better job handling an economic crisis than McCain, the Republican presidential nominee. Forty-nine percent of those questioned say Obama would display good judgment in an economic crisis, 6 points higher than the number who said the same about McCain. And Obama has a 10 point lead over McCain on the question of who would better handle the economy overall.

Watch: McCain calls for oversight board

These numbers appear to be affecting the battle for the presidency. Fifty-one percent of registered voters are backing Obama, who now holds a 5 point edge over McCain, at 46 percent. McCain and Obama were tied at 48 percent apiece in the previous CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey. Obama's advantage, while growing, is still within the poll's sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Where did Obama make his gains?

"In two core McCain constituencies: Men, who now narrowly favor Obama. And seniors, who have also flipped from McCain to Obama," says CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider.

When including only those people most likely to vote, the results are pretty much the same: Among likely voters, Obama has a 4 point lead, 51 percent to 47 percent

Nice try blaming Dems DTB :142smilie

McCain is clueless on economy.

If McCain is elected America is going down the shitter with a one eyed critter

Lets see Scott you have articles from msnbc and cnn--which are liberal bibles.

I have one from boomberg and heres another from Wall street journal.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122212948811465427.html

---maybe the demographics of each parties base may be result of sources of media they rely on. :)

Theres enough blame to go around on boths sides in this mess--but I am continuely amazed how many of our politicians think their current rhetoric will trump actions.

Rewriting History?

Democratic Senator Charles Schumer of New York says a lack of regulation by the Bush administration is responsible for the current economic troubles. The New York Sun reports Schumer says, "Eight years of deregulatory zeal by the Bush administration, an attitude of 'the market can do no wrong,' have led us down a short path to economic recession."

But Schumer fails to mention he has been a leading voice of deregulation. The Sun reports he championed the repeal in 1999 of the Glass-Steagall Act, the law which separated commercial and investment banking.

He also wrote an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal in 2006 which warned about what he called "overzealous regulators" and opposed a bill in 2005 that would have transformed Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae from large investment funds into "conduits" that only bought mortgages, packaged them into securities and sold them on the market.

Since 1989, Lehman Brothers's employees and political action committee have given $9.2 million to federal candidates, parties and political action committees, with 54 percent of that going to Democrats. In the current Congress, 271 lawmakers have collected nearly $3 million since 1989, with 72 percent going to Democrats. Democratic presidential candidates and senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama top the list of all-time recipients for the company, collecting $410,000 and $395,600 respectively. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a member of both the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, hauled in $181,450, while Sen. Chris Dodd, chair of the Senate banking committee, has collected $165,800. The top recipient of PAC money from Lehman Brothers has been Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over banking and the securities industry. Castle has collected $38,500 from Lehman's PAC since 1993.

I dont understand why these is even a issue or it bothers you so much. This is not illegal . This is the way our political system works. The politicians need money to get elected, and companies need things done for them in the future favor category.

We have not changed the system. So why do you cry so loud about it. You make is sound like Hillary is taking Bill and Chelsea on a Puerto Rican vacation
with her money.

They use it for political gain.

what really is the problem ?

Ahmadinejad: 'American empire' nearing end

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sharply attacked the United States and NATO, accusing them of acting as aggressors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

AP) ? Iran's president accused "a few bullying powers" of trying to thwart his country's peaceful nuclear program and declared in a speech Tuesday before the U.N. General Assembly that "the American empire" are nearing collapse.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sharply attacked the United States and NATO, accusing them of acting as aggressors in Iraq and Afghanistan, and of starting those wars "in order to win votes in elections."

"American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road, and its next rulers must limit their interference to their own borders," Ahmadinejad said.

He reiterated Iran's insistence that its nuclear program is purely peaceful, not aimed at producing nuclear weapons as the U.S. and some European countries suspect.

"A few bullying powers have sought to put hurdles in the way of the peaceful nuclear activities of the Iranian nation by exerting political and economic pressures against Iran and also through threatening and pressuring the IAEA," the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

The U.S. and its allies allege Iran wants to develop its uranium enrichment program to make nuclear weapons, while Tehran insists it is designed to produce electricity for civilian use.

Iran already is under three sets of sanctions by the U.N. Security Council for refusing to suspend uranium enrichment. Washington and its Western allies are pushing for quick passage of a fourth set of sanctions to underline the international community's resolve.

During interviews ahead of his speech Tuesday, Ahmadinejad blamed U.S. military interventions around the world in part for the collapse of global financial markets. He said the campaign against his country's nuclear program was solely due to the Bush administration "and a couple of their European friends."

"The U.S. government has made a series of mistakes in the past few decades," Ahmadinejad said an interview with the Los Angeles Times. "The imposition on the U.S. economy of the years of heavy military engagement and involvement around the world ... the war in Iraq, for example. These are heavy costs imposed on the U.S. economy.

"The world economy can no longer tolerate the budgetary deficit and the financial pressures occurring from markets here in the United States, and by the U.S. government," he added.

In a separate interview with National Public Radio, Ahmadinejad claimed vast international support for his position and said the campaign consisted "of only three or four countries, led by the United States and with a couple of their European friends."

.....................................................

Guarentee you Armadinnerjacket is trying as hard as he can to make this happen.

I would not feel bad about nuking Iran into the stone age.

your whole problem is that you zero in on the obvious.

The good old boy network McCain works in secret is where the real money is at.

Obama gets 319,000 :142smilie

McCain is set up to get 319 million if he can win.

Dont you feel a tad bitter about having the blinders on for so long.

This whole bailout is a sham. This whole economic system is a sham.

Any conservatives who cry at high-taxes and welfare programs as "socialism" pretty much have to shut their traps forever.

Make fun of Biden for saying paying taxes it patriotic, and you are making fun of our country for bailing out the financial market. Tit for tat, tit for tat.

Face it, this country hasn't been even close to pure capitalism in 80+ years.

Since we now must admit we are socialist, maybe we can better decide how these socialistic plans are drawn up.

How about infrastructure, and things ordinary Americans like you and I will actually appreciate?

Wow, I'm really glad I don't have children.

Good freakin luck. This is their little racist rally cry and they will say it till the day they dropped dead because they can't seem to break out of the tunnel vision they are so famous for. Always remember it is okay to be a socialism society when it is rich people who get the bailout.

I said this last year. The debt is one thing and having a clueless president who has riled up every Muslim in the world, won't be something to look forward to either. Middle class :sadwave:

THATS A DUMB QUESTION SCOTT!!! The answer is BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT REPUBLICAN:00hour They still defend this party after 8 years of waste and lies, and worse then that...they are still backing the party trying to put another but the same guy in office...you know the guy who went from "I am experienced and I am a leader'' to "We need change in Washington and I am the guy to bring that"......only thing republicans want to change MAYBE are the underwear they put on this morning. How many republicans do you know on welfare or jobless and living in a shelter?
