The problem with all of this is whatever your position is on any issue has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are qualified for the bench. "Advise and consent" has been absolutely perverted by both sides in the nomination process. Republicans no doubt hated him, but Thurgood Marshall was clearly qualified. Democrats hated Bork, but on papaer there may have never been a nominee more qualified. The whole thing has gotten ridiculous.

All very true.

nosigar,

The rest of the industrialized Western World has advanced beyond it as well. But the American Taliban continues to try and micro-manage women's lives and decisions for them.

I really wouldn't use the rest of the western world as a proud gauge. Been there, seen it. Not pretty.

It certainly isn't some 'last stand', but it seems to me that the liberals just want the status quo maintained while it's the conservatives who want it overturned

This isn't a 'crusade' of mine or anybody that I know.

Sure, they're more 'vocal' through sit-ins and rallys.

what happened to *last stand* , *crusade*, or *vocal*??

Wasn't making fun of freeze , was really making a comment of your use of more mainstream punctuation than what I'm used to out of your posts.

Please bring back the asterisks.

I didn't think you were making fun of Freeze, but I couldn't really figure out what you were saying(dumb it down for me today-i've read a few mansons posts) so I just went with the crusade thing(Freeze loves our friendly banter and I believe he considers me a good friend). Thanks and good *luck.*

Being a conservative nomonie, this guy will definately bring things from left to center a bit in the Supreme court. He will replace the retiring Sondra Day O conner who is a right leaning centrist .

Hopefully it will help prevent the ridiculous ruling by the S.C. like we had last week on emminent domain . Watchout the Librals want to build shopping malls on our homes now !

Interesting assertion by Kerry in light that he refused to have his released when running for pres---

WASHINGTON ? Democratic Sen. John Kerry urged the White House on Friday to release "in their entirety" all documents and memos from Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' (search) tenure in two Republican administrations.

"We cannot do our duty if either Judge Roberts or the Bush administration hides elements of his professional record," said the Massachusetts senator who was his party's presidential candidate last year.

DTB,

Has anyone in the Bush Administration ever released any information that was not wither forced on them, court mandated or drudged up by reporters? To single out Kerry is a partisan attack when no administration has ever had such secrecy as the current one. This information should be mandated to be released by anyone in a public office, as the people whom pay their salaries and vote for them should have the right to know without having to go through hoops to get any information.

Nope. But that is funny how the right gets bashed for supporting big buisness yet it was the liberal SCJ's that just paved a road for developer's to build shopping malls over our home's by merely convincing a few city officials that it will be good for the economic growth of a community.

Believe GW released his which is neither here nor there--the point is people that refuse to release theirs shouldn't be whining about others--but he is the pervial flip-flopper--so lets give him a pass.

This administration is notorious for not releasing information both to the people of the country and to Congress. Personally I could care what clubs Robert's was a member of but to say you cannot recall ever being a member of the Federalist's Society when you were on the steering commitee is a bit bizarre. Is Robert's short term memory that bad that he cannot recall something from five years ago? Does he have Alzheimers ? Why not just be honest about it and say yea I was a member of the club and I was on the steering comittee and state why you left the organization instead of acting like you don't know anything about it. Kerry may have been a flip-flopper but wouldn't you then have to call Roberts a flip flopper since he cant make up his mind if he was a member of the Federalist's Society or not, just like Bush is a flip flopper when he stated that anyone involved in the CIA leak would be terminated but now that Rove is outed the language has changed to a criminal act.
