smurphy -- you are very welcome, and I agree with you. It was a very nice gesture on my part.

DTB, Barbara Walters or Larry King , or Sean Hannitty staging an interview is not the same thing as the President of the United States doing it.

How does it differ--and are you including ex presidents--and again whats your definition staging???supplying the questions in advance?-the answers in advance?- or both?

Why is it called interview in situation and staging in another?

Just a few simple questions this simple person would like to know.

Good grief chaps....politicians staging press conferences? have you all gone mad? They have been doing it since the advent of the printing press - just used the new technology, radio, TV, etc. as it came along.

Anyone remember the story of the shambles of Yalta and FDR, Stalin and Churchill? The lies cost the world so much...all staged, set up, scripted without any recourse to facts and reality.

Grow up you Bush haters.

Hey when you watch those polls as he is. You make sure no more surprise's. I remember last year a few soldiers asked some tough question of Cheney and Rummy. So just because they practiced for this one before hand you cant blame them. After all they ran out of excuses for why were there. But I almost threw up when the one invited Iraqi soldier out of the many they must have some place said. I like you sir. I said oh oh everyone check your pockets.

Um...DJV...news flash buddy, they practiced for Rumsfeld too because those soldiers were coached by a reporter embedded with their unit. You truly are in the land of the lost my friend.

Behind the headlines

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was taken aback during a visit to Kuwait when a U.S. soldier cornered him with what ABC News described as "an unusually blunt question" about the lack of armored vehicles in Iraq.

Army Spc. Thomas Wilson, of Nashville, drew applause with his televised, show-stopping query: "Now why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to up-armor our vehicles?"

Wilson's outspokenness didn't surprise those who knew him -- but, apparently, he didn't come up with the question himself.

Chattanooga Times Free Press military reporter Lee Pitts, who's embedded with Wilson's unit, wrote in e-mail to colleagues (it's archived at Romenesko) that he primed the soldiers escorting him to ask tough questions. Pitts said he also arranged with the sergeant in charge of the microphone during Rumsfeld's Q&A session (transcript) to pick them out of the crowd.

Not that Wilson seemed to mind. "The solider who asked the question said he felt good b/c he took his complaints to the top," Pitts wrote. "When he got back to his unit most of the guys patted him on the back but a few of the officers were upset b/c they thought it would make them look bad."

Well i would call Barbara Walters and Larry King entertainers first. I would call Sean Hannitty and entertainer too but I notice you like to keep avoiding using his name in this context. I don't think that words coming out of their mouths are as important as those coming out of the presidents mouth especially when it concerns war. Call me funny that way.

Hannity would be one of the very last example I would use for scripted interview--do you ever see the heat he puts on liberals--some unjust I agree--but they certainly would volunteer for that abuse if they knew what was coming.
Example Clinton has been interviewed on Hannity and Colmes 3 times that I know of including a few weeks ago---guess who is always absent in interview--Hannity--he won't go on with him there--neither will he--his wife--jackson and others go on Factor--in addition if you'll remember interview Bush had with O'reilly I putup here prior to election he did not cut GW any slack nor as he stated before interview did GW know what questions were coming--he asked Kerry to do same(fair and balanced) under same circumstances and he declined and prob lost election on account of it.

I notice you don't mention the kid gloves that Hannitty treats pro administration interviewees with. Fair and balanced my ass. But thast's ok because it's getting off the subject of the President using soldiers as props.

Although many politicos have staged events, this criminal administration seem quite adept at it. The only time I can remember where they could not fully shield the big dummy was during the debates. And we all know how well the moron did at those.

Everything else, from his campaign stops, aircraft carrier appearances and press conferences seems to have been staged and restricted. Even when the clown comes to the heartland (which is his base of stupidity) the local republican offices (aka Nazi party) issues passes to get people in for free to his rallys.

Looks like the local gestapo checks out the person requesting the pass to the rally to make sure such person is a member of the hitler youth or some such other organization and won't embarass the big dummy.

Ah, nothing like livin in a free country.
