Escondido: Buy one (house), get one free.

In a sign of how difficult it is to sell new homes in Southern California right now, a San Diego developer is offering a "buy one, get one free" deal, pairing million-dollar homes with less expensive homes.

"We thought, 'Why does it just have to be on Pop Tarts and restaurants? Why not buy one home, get one free,'" Dawn Berry of Michael Crews Development told 10 News in San Diego.

More: "Michael Crews Development is offering new, 2000-square foot cityscape row-homes worth $400,000 in Escondido for free -- if you buy one Royal View Estate home in San Pasqual Valley starting at $1.6 million. 'You know it's a straight-up legit deal; no prices have been increased, there are no hidden costs. Michael is just giving away a free home for people that buy at Royal View,' said Berry."

"Adam Rossman of Michael Crews Development added, 'People have been coming in saying, 'How can you do this?' Well, it's our way of dealing with current market conditions to move some inventory.'

Above the Clouds....
Everything around here is down. People are spending money on gas, fuel oil and food rather than home improvements, travel and things they can put off buying.

I work for a nationally known moving company our long distance division is having a great year because of the mass amount of traffic of outbound shipments leaving Michigan. My wife works for General Motors hoping for 3 more years so she can get her 30 years. Hope I"m not left to turn the lights out.

Plumbing contractor in West Michigan. Residential is way down. Commercial is actually fairly steady if not up a bit if you are willing to travel a bit. The only problem being there are usually anywhere from 5-20 contractors bidding for the same project. We've had our fair share of factory closings or re-locations in this area. Not helping. Gas is $4.00+ a gallon which is hurting everyone with a fleet of trucks. McCain & Obama keep visiting the state wanting to blow sunshine up everyone's ass, but I don't see it.

We budgeted for 10% growth, wishing for 20% growth. Currently, it looks like we are going to be just under 15% growth by the end of Q2 for the same period last year.

Our pipeline has more in it than it has in at least 2 years, though. If our historical conversion rates apply, we will exceed our wishful 20% by year's end.

We are currently getting 4 times as many semi-qualified leads per month as compared to last year.
