Buying a Bicycle

I'm looking to buy a bike for the spring for my cardio workouts, I prefer to be outside then in some sweatbox of a gym. Anyone have any good suggestions of a reliable bike that isn't all that expensive? Probably will be doing most of my riding in a park by my house but will go on the road I'm sure too. Not all too concerned with speed; I'm really just looking for something to get some good exercise with.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

LOL - thanks....but I meant a real workout not a joyride through the park on something only BeanTownJim would think is cool.

Trossi - I'm aware of the whack job factor here - I kind of expected it. Just hoping someone's got a bike they like for recreational riding.

How much is "too" much in your mind, hap? I've owned several of these bikes by Trek over the years and IMO you can't go wrong owning one.

I currently own this one, just got it last year.

I also own a 6 year old mountain bike that is also a Trek for when I want to get off the bike paths and really do some riding.

Make sure whatever model of bike you end up buying that you get sized for it. Whether you buy a bike locally or order it on-line and put it together yourself, you shouldn't have any trouble walking into a bike shop and getting sized for a bike.

In fact, I'd bet that you might still be able to get a great deal on a bike right now-- I know one of our local bike shop's still has several 2003 models on hand.

LMFAO, Monk.....

But I'm far from being Lance Armstrong, I just like to ride the bike paths along the mighty Mississippi River here in the area on nice days.....
as long as we pass by a few dozen bars during the ride everything is alright with the world....:D
