Hudson Valley area.....NY
Pel,
The dealer in Philly{concelli honda] took my daughters car..inspected it and drove it for about 5 minutes...they did that right in front of her...they asked her how she got those two scratches .. she told them her junior year at East Stroudberg there was a huge snow storm...the car had about 20 inches of snow on it...she took the snow shovel to get the snow off her car....hence... scratch...now I never did say my daughter was a rocket scientist...
But the salesman in Philly said" the most we'll give you is $1500..."
If the dealer in Philly was giving me the $1500 I can't see the huge difference in upstate NY..
It's not the money..the hell with the $300...it was a game they were playing...salesman-asst. manager-both leave-manager back---he leaves-salesman back- he leaves-then were left alone-manager back-salesman comes in-finance person comes in who shows us the difference in the monthly fee. "It was $288 a month..now its only $295 a month..."... manager.."thats not a lot"....
It's done..It's my fault for being so stupid...I could of walked out and you guys are right..they probaly would of made the deal...but she needed the car...I've have had 5 kids die in car accidents at my HS in the past 2 years and I'm going to haggle over $300 bucks...her driving the stratus on the jersey turnpike made me nervous all the time..
Like madjack said..it's over...I would just love to know what they sold the dodge for..with or w/o the scratches..
Scott..I like that idea LOL..let me think about it..

On the course!
I have been selling vehicles now for over 10 years, don't really consider myself a dirtbag. When ever I sell a vehicle it is my job to make the dealership a profit, they don't ask me to make alot but I do have to make a profit, usually just $300 over invoice.Let me ask all of you this, what ever your job is,are you ripping people off by making a profit,I don't know of any company that will come to my house and perform any service without making a profit.
If the dealership bid the trade unseen and you did not tell them about the scratches well guess what it deducts from the value of the vehicle.I have people all of the time tells me on the phone that their vehicle is perfect and I give them a bid but once it gets here it is anything but perfect and then we deduct for the damage.

I don't buy that.

Why give a "quote" over the phone at all? I know this is a retarded question, but can't you fukers be honest?

Who the hell buys a car over the phone? :mj07:

I don't see a problem with his response. If I ask someone to give me a ballpark over the phone and say it's in "excellent" or "good" condition, then they only have that information to go on. When I get there, if it is different then so be it.

Selling your car on your own (Craigslist makes this very simple if you live somewhere big enough) then you are going to make more money due to eliminating the middle man. If you trade in your car, you should expect to pay them a fee for it.

What I don't like is the way it is presented. I should be able to negotiate a deal fully then present that I have a trade-in. I should receive the same trade-in "offer" as if I presented it at the beginning of the deal. This, to me, is the shady part about car lots.

YYZ,
lots of people pick out the vehicle on the internet,I price the vehicle, they say they want it and I have it clean and full of gas when they get here,on a new vehicle there is nothing wrong with that
But in Boxs situation if they already looked at the vehicle, that was definitely wrong in backing up the bid 300,it kills me when someone goes to a high pressure or dishonest dealership and then thinks all dealerships are like that,I work at one the most laid back dealerhips around,we sell to the same people over and over again,if we treated people like that we would eventually be out of business, here in a small town but in big cities they know if they piss you off there are still alot more customers out there

................................................................

This is where I have to call bullshit.

I absolutely cannot believe that a dealership has a new car listed invoice price of $ 16,500.00

And your trying to tell me that you got to sell it for $ 16,800.00

You expect me to believe that they are only making 300 dollars on that car.

What you must not know , is what they actually paid for the car themselves. More like $12,500.00
or even more.

You expect us to believe that the car is built on the line in Detroit or wherever, they pay union labor rates to build it, All the parts, paint, seats , and all go into the finished product. Then they put it on a train or truck and ship it thousands of miles.

AND THEY MAKE 300 DOLLARS !

So they are fawking you by thinking that and us by hearing 300 dollar profit crap. If you believe that I would be able to pay you like 300 bucks a car you sell and you would be happy as helll.

Damn . Profits ....:142smilie Profits :142smilie

I don't think so Sherlock.

I worked for General Motors in Plant Engineering for 7 years in the midwest. As an employee benifit I was able to purchase GM cars directly thru the plant at the ture dealers cost. True costs. The dealer is invoiced at a higher price ( which is called "dealer invoice") and the the Corporation gives the dealer a rebate at the end of the year to make sure they make money. The final cost to the dealer is the "true dealer costs". I don't remember the price differentail but it was substantial.
.............................................................

Found on a blog about what dealerships make.

When times are good they are cashing big time.

And what you will never be able to find out is what the rebates and true costs. Thats how they make everyone think they dont make money on new sales. It serves them right what they are going through not gearing up long ago for better milage. They knew this was coming.

The thing that is ironic is that in the very near future these fawkers are going to be selling honda civics for $40,000.00

Supply and fawking demand you know .

300 dollars over invoice :142smilie :142smilie

your getting so fawked without a smooch

I really don't care if you believe me or not,but one thing you said was right the company who makes the vehicles make alot more than 300 when we buy the vehicles from them but we get none of that money,we only get the amount of money that we sell it over what we paid for it,its like if I grow oranges and it cost me .50 to grow a pound but I sell them to a retailer for 3.00 a pound and then the retailer sells them for 3.50 a pound. And another thing invoice is not the listed price.Don't get me wrong not many dealerships will cut someone a deal right off the bat.
I have no reason to be not telling the truth in this matter and again could not care less

Listen Munson.

Dont try to give me a economics lesson. I been driven hard and rode far. I think that came out right.

Your telling me that you regularly sit in with the owner of the dealership and you know exactly what each car makes on each sale.

You dont know shit about what the owners are making. Just like any large business. And they dont want you to know , so they can pay you a measly 300 bucks a car sales.

And you hump your ass off to sell 6-8 cars a month or you get canned.

Wake up dude.

You and Agent could end up skipping along in the same mundane jobs for the rest of your lives.

And loving it.

And thats not a bad thing. I think smurph told me that one.

box, most dealerships wont turn around and sell a used car like that unless its a real nice trade in. they will just send it straight to auction. thats what they did at the honda/acura/bmw dealership i used to work at
