So. Cal
I know that the "help buying a new tv" thread was a ton of help for everyone this holiday season. I trashed my old laptop (acer) by someone stepping on it and cracking the screen and then finally knocking over a glass of water into it and frying something in it. So I never did like the laptop and I have been researching new laptops.

I wanted something that was inexpensive <1000 and something that had good features that could adapt for a couple a years with the new media and win vista coming out. Also I would like it to be portable since I already have a desktop, so battery life and small size are a big plus. I came across this today and I have done some research and read alot of reviews on it and it sounds like a hell of a deal at 599.

Ive always liked the satellite series from toshiba because they have always looked so clean and sharp and such a small portable package. They have always been out of my price range though.
Only drawback I can see is that the processor is a duo core and not a duo 2 core, which are the new intel models. I do not know what the difference is between the two of them and if anyone could tell me the difference and if it is worth 200 more than the duo I would appreciate it.

Also if any of you guys just bought a laptop that you really like please let me know as I have not yet purchased this but I think I am already sold. Let me know if there is anything I should know about this comp.

Hope this helps a few of you this year.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
I got heck of a deal on a Dell last year. Always look in the Dell business section for sales.

But geek freinds of mine that work in computer stores that fix and upgrade laptops say Dell has been slipping in quality of late. The geeks swear by Toshiba. I got a Toshiba from 1997 (with Intel MMX 166 chip) that still works great!

I also use the Dell Inspiron, I have the 6000 and its a great computer has taken a beating and works like new, and by beating I mean drunken nights on vodka waters and some serious bad beats which means computer tossing time. I'd recommend as a less expensive option and if you have good credit Dell has some nice payment plans. I will say Dell's costumer service is terrible, but the product is worth the price.

BLG, your link didn't work for me but coincidentially, I am picking up this Toshiba Sattelite tomorrow afternoon:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat103700050031&id=1157067806867

At $729.00, it's a steal.

circuit city quit offering the deal after the end of the year

I saw an open boxed model and ask a guy that worked there if it was the same one listed at 599, he said yeah. I said then why is it marked at 729 and he told me that it was because that was basically what cc paid for it and since it was the last one (the display unit) that they are just trying to get rid of it. I asked when they would be gettin in new shipment and he said never. So for those that picked it up at 599 (after rebates) you got a great buy. But the reason why the link doesnt work is probably because they arent offering it anymore. Thanks for the updated link judge
