My wife wants a nice watch for christmas. I know a few name brands, but I have no clue about what to look for. My budget is about $300-$500 and I know she wants a silver band (not leather)... here are some of my questions, any other input would be greatly appreciated

1) where to buy? Can I buy online, or should I go to a jeweler

2) What kind? I know some place make really good high end watches, but their lower end are not always great. I know the Movado's, Tag, Swiss, etc Is there a difference in them?

3) Do you buy warranty, or anything like that?

I've always beat the crap out of my watches, so I tend to wear watches that are in that $300-$500price range.

I've had a Seiko, Citizen, and Bulova and been happy with all three.

They all have good brand recognition...in other words, not a timex, that you know is cheap, and they all have very stylish features.

I would look around, but overstock.com or amazon.com is a good place to go after you wander around stores looking for the watch you want, but buy online after going around through department stores and jewelry stores.

And, no I would never buy a warranty on a $500 watch.

Dont buy Movado's! :scared

I have three of them and none of them work. Overpriced pieces of crap sitting in my junk drawer.

Yes, I have had them repaired...............:SIB

Franky

dont buy them on the street of nyc or any other city and this wont happen :nono:

i have had a movado for over 6 years and it keeps on ticking...never had to change the battery either...movado is a very classy watch...mavodo makes numerious other brands like coach, tommy hillffagger, juicy couture amongst others....lol...i own a good chunk of movado stock so of course i would like to see all the extra sales :)

Hi Snoozer..........I live in Troy, kind of your neighbor and my office is in Royal Oak, man I'm real close to you. I just don't think you'll find a real nice designer type watch that your wife will love for $300/$500. You might need to push it a few $$$, maybe to the $800/$1000 range. Been through this. ...........just my opinion. Neiman Marcus at Somerset does carry some nice watches under a grand, check them out???

Guess Watch $300 @ macy's

These two watches look like Cartier designs.......not bad.

All three purchased at Authorized Movado Retailers. Have had all three in for service at one time or another. One in particular has been repaired 4 times!
I stand by my original statement, THEY ARE JUNK....

Also, if you actually have stock in the company, I would think you would know how to spell it:com:
