I've currently got a Sanyo 42" HD LCD in my Living Room that I bought last October when my 52" crapped out on me. Got a nice bonus this year and thought I would treat myself to a bigger TV. I've given myself a $1K budget, but really don't want to spend that much. Here are the few I've settled on and would like your thoughts/opinions (all amounts include tax):

Panasonic 50" Plasma 720p
The cheap guy in me likes this because it's got a great picture, has internet capability and doesn't break the bank at $535. Normally $659 but on sale through tomorrow.

HH Gregg Store Brand 55" LCD 1080p
It's got a very nice picture compared to some of the other name brands it was on the wall next too. Nothing special but it's a 55" for $675.

Samsung Smart TV 51" 3D 1080p Plasma
Normally $1,099 but since they did not have the Panasonic Viera that I wanted he offered to sell this for $866.69. Very nice picture, lots of extras due to being a Smart TV and 2 pair of 3D glass are free.

LG 60" 1080p Plasma
The football fan in me wants this one BAD! 60" of pure awesomeness. Great picture but most expensive of the group at $960.

I about choked when I discussed extended warranty with the salesman. Almost every TV was $179 for 3 years. Wal-Mart, Sears and Target are all less than $100 for the same time. Having a hard time pulling the trigger on this. If you think it's worth the extra money, then I almost have to go with my first two choices so as not to break the bank.

I was all ready to buy the 3rd option but apparently the folks at Ameriana Bank think I should only have a $750 spending limit every 24 hours on my card so it was declined. I figured this was God's way of telling me I don't need a new TV. :SIB

Anyway, thoughts and opinions are encouraged. I'm going back tomorrow to make a buy.

Thanks!

Panasonic 50" Plasma 720p Not bad

HH Gregg Store Brand 55" LCD 1080p Please don't

Samsung Smart TV 51" 3D 1080p Plasma Nice

LG 60" 1080p Plasma Your best bet for money and enjoyment. :0074

The warranty is up to you, but I wouldn't do it. I would pocket the money saved, but that's just me.

60" is a big difference over 50" comparing mine to dunclock's. The bigger the better, IMO.

mine is 65" and it is now 4 years old :0074

go with the biggest you can afford bro ... some amazing products and deals out there for under 1k but you will always want a bigger screen and you have plenty big enough living room for it

On the course!
Aren't plasmas huge energy hogs?

I've also read that if you can hold off til February, the new models come out, and the current stuff will be that much cheaper.

I agree. TV has a sticker price of $1,099 and salesman knocked $200 off to make it $899 and I had a 10% off coupon from my Entertainment book to make it $809. Add tax and it's $866 total and I also get (2) 3D glasses thrown in.

I'm looking at it now as if I'm already spending that amount of money why not spend another $200 and get a 60" Smart TV from LG. It won't be a 3D TV but I really don't care about that.
