Cable instalation question.........

Guys, I want to put cable in my kids room, but don't want to go through the biz of having them cutting a hole, etc.

Where would I go to get the shit to splice from the existing hook up in my room, to the Dependant's?

Rough cost?


I need about 20-30 feet of cable.

Peterson's Electronic Surplus is located in my garage (and it's all free) you plan on using just a splitter and the coax? are you running thru the walls, or are you running the coax across the floor?

it should cost a whopping $20 (roughly) for the splitter and cable and about 15-30 minutes of extremely rough manual labor.

I'll run it on the floor. I can ease it along the wall, and run it right across the door from my room into hers. I figure I will get one of those "runners" to cover the cable in front of my door.

I brought the shit home, but since I am stupid about this stuff, I didn't notice the wall plate is female, as is the splitter!

Now I can run back and by a conector!

25 feet and a splitter was only 13 bucks.

don't put the splitter into a wall plate.....use small length of coax to connect the plate to the splitter input, then run both outputs to the TV's/cable boxes.

is your cable digital?? if so, you may not even be able to do it the way i suggested. as with directv, initial input sometimes has to go directly into the cable box.

test this before you go....use the cable you already have and the one you just bought to test your cable box after running thru the splitter. make sure it doesn't cause any channel outages.

Okay,

I am up and running, so to speak.

Being a techno-putz, I bought the wrong splitter! I bought one for cable/antenna change over. (That was 7 bucks pissed away!) I chewed up the box getting it out, so I won't return it.

I went back and bought the correct splitter, and it seems to being doing a good job.

was $30 per outlet for comcast...not sure which cable you have. they charge $5 for the outlet, and $25 for the line fishing fee.

i hear ya on that YYZ..... i do all my own electronic wiring (computers EXCLUDED) .... when comcast came here last week, i told them i wanted the cable service to the OUTSIDE of the house and i'd do the rest....to hell with that extra $150 since the coax was already shoved thru all the bedroom walls....LOL
