Calgary Flames (17-24-7-3) at Dallas Stars (29-11-11-1), 8:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars seek their third consecutive victory tonight when they welcome the Calgary Flames to AmericanAirlines Center.
Dallas, 11-1-3 in its last 15 tries, is coming off Monday's 5-3 home win over Ottawa in a clash of the National Hockey League's best. The Stars weathered a hat trick by the Senators' Martin Havlat, as Scott Young, Bill Guerin and Mike Modano (empty net) scored third-period goals to provide the difference.
Modano, who was named captain of the Western Conference All-Stars on Tuesday, finished with two goals, and Brenden Morrow tallied as well. Guerin's score off a deflection with 5:24 left was the game-winner.
The Stars improved to 5-7-2 this season when trailing after two periods. Dallas tied the NHL record for most wins in a campaign when trailing after two periods during the 1999-2000 season (8-18-2).
With 70 points, the Stars lead the Western Conference by six over Vancouver and St. Louis. They trail Ottawa by a point in the race for the NHL's best overall record.
Dallas, 7-1-1 in its last nine home tilts, will play their last game before the All-Star break tonight.
Calgary, meanwhile, has lost two of its last three games on the heels of a 2-0-1 spurt. Tuesday in Phoenix the Flames dropped a 4-3 decision in a see-saw affair. The Coyotes pulled out to a 2-0 first-period lead only to have the Flames take a 3-2 lead with three unanswered tallies in the second. However, Phoenix answered with a pair in the third, including Mike Johnson's game- winner with 1:49 to play.
Chris Drury, Chris Clark and Bob Boughner scored in the loss, and Roman Turek allowed four goals on 23 shots. Calgary outshot Phoenix by a 30-23 margin, but nonetheless fell to the Coyotes for the second time in less than a week.
The Flames have lost two straight, and five of their last seven road games.
Calgary and Dallas skated to a 3-3 tie at the Saddledome on October 24, as the Stars' Jere Lehtinen netted the equalizer with 2:49 left in regulation. The road team is unbeaten in the last seven meetings (4-0-3).
