Calling all MJ'ers in Boston and NY area....

Some friends and I are planning a baseball weekend in the area on the weekend of August 18th and 19th.... We plan to hit the Yanks/Tigers game in NY and then hit the Bosox game in Boston the following day.... There are about 6 of us...and none of us have visited NY or Boston before....


Here's what I'm looking for from you guys....

Places to stay? Places to eat? (other than BTJ's favorite seafood place) Places not to miss?

Should we plan to rent a van, take cabs, take the subway?

Come on fellas, hit me with the goods.... Thanks in advance.


p.s. If possible, I'd like to meet up with a few of you local guys while we're in town for a brew or whatever....

if only in NY for one day and doing the baseball, best off just staying in manhattan (it shouldnt be crazy expensive that time of year,but it might be hot) and not having to rent a car, you can take #6 subway I believe to Yankee stadium from grand central (in the 50s in nyc) so if you stay anywhere in midtown area you can walk to go out to eat and take subway to/from game...I dont go to many yankee games (i'm a met fan and its much easier to get to than yankee stadium from my area) but i'd meet you for a brew if schedule allows....boston i dont know as well but theyve got loads of public transporation too and you wont need to drive around there either to get to the game.....enjoy your trip here, you are unlike some other narrow minded folk on here who constantly bash the northeast yet have never been here, but it's a lotta fun:mj06: :mj06: and there are no shortages of places to go out boozing until the sweet 4am closing time....ok i digress, it's 25 degrees now, i wish it was august! hope that helps, if i think of anything else i'll post it

Holy Shit, next August? Man you one planning dude. Hell I hardly know if I'll be living next August lol. You guys really should spend more time than 1 day in New York & one day in Boston. Honestly try to make it a long weekend. All around Fenway there are bars on Brookline Avenue & Lansdowne St. Boston Beer Works is directly across from Fenway, game on is a brand New awesome sports bar that is connected on to Fenway. Jillians is a gigantic bar on Lansdowne that has all kinds of billiards & Video games, pretty cool. old sports bars like whos on first, Cask n' Flagon, and copperfields have been around for decades. Very short walking distance is Kenmore Square, home to everything Boston University. School of course won't be in session in August.
Lots of bars & restaurants there however.

I would recommend staying in Copley Square, its a giant Mall, sitting in the center of Boston, its walking distance to Fenway, or a short cab ride, and there is a Marriott there (which features a sports bar, champions. Also a Weston, that has a fantastic seafood restaurant, comparable to LEGAL SEAFOOD, its called TURNER FISHERIES. There are other hotels around this area, and you are close to Newbury St. which is packed with clubs, restaurants, and Night Life.

Any trip to Boston you should try to get to Quincy market. New England aquarium is across the street from Quincy market. Glad to help, ask questions as time gets closer. check this link

We had to plan this little trip well in advance.... There are 8 of us going...6 are married and I'm engaged.... Of the 6 that are married, 5 have babies at home...and the other is in worse shape...he's in law school!!! After we looked at the dozen or so weekends that the Yanks and BoSox both played home stands...and weren't playing each other (so we could see both parks), we had to check everyone's schedules for wive's birthdays, children's birthdays, one weekend was Father's Day weekend (out).... We were left with only about 3 or 4 weekends to choose from.... :shrug: LOL

8 Guys from Tennessee went to a Yankees game.... (Sounds like the beginning to a bad joke....)

The 8 of us are getting together next weekend to mull this trip over...and see if we can't put away a few brews in the process.... We are in the beginning planning stages.... Objective number 1 - pick the weekend.... Check! Now, we're looking for travel arrangements, tickets, etc. So, anyone with any information, please share....

make sure you stay in manhatten and not the bronx.besides yankee stadium not much else to see there.ive got season tickets so ill probably bee there..the drive to boston isnt that bad either,a few hours.sounds like fun...if your going to buy yankee paraphinlia for your family back home,and buying more than 1 thing(and im talking about the real stuff at the yankee stores down the street from the stadium ,not the vendors /guys outside or store inside the stadium)you can talk down the prices.make your own deals they will go for it and youll save alot of money.shirts,even the real authentic stuff,they will work with you.

..you have some good tips on activities in and around Fenway, check out the Baseball Tavern as well before the game or the Caskn Flagan. For steaks go to Abe and Louiis on Boylston (across from Prudential Center and a block from Copley, named after 2 for bookmakers), for true Italian try Artu's in the North End (6 Prince St, personal favorite) and you can hit numerous bars cafe's within walking distance, you already have some nice seafood. Nightlife, don't know the age group, you already have Landsdown and F Hall, upscale is Whisky in Park Plaza Hotel, Saint on Exeter, City Bar in the Lenox Hotel on Exeter, Jer Ne in the new Ritz on the Common, Sonsie on Newbury St., grab my email from Jack if you need more info, sounds like a great trip...l.

:violin: :violin: Yes, although not as often as I probably should given its proximity, I was just giving generic advice to help my fellow jacker, like hed help me if I was visiting gods country....and, the offer still stands sometime in your lifetime to come visit NY etc in the spring/summer, couple it with a nice day @ the jersey shore or out east and plenty of :mj06: and not 90 and humid like florida is in the summer, and you talk about people "bailing" to vegas trips :shrug:

I didn't 'talk' about people bailing. I could care less. Agent was in a panic because people were cancelling and I simply told him that the same thing happens every year. That it wasn't unusual and that he could relax about it.

Yeah you hijacked Chads thread, nice job :SIB Kosar, these dont need to be "seconded" I have been to Yankee stadium and just told him to avoid renting a car stay in manhattan and take the public trans. to the game, easiest way....cant give specific restaurant ideas but you won't have trouble finding any good pizzerias, etc, stay away from the real expensive places w/small portions, or try zagats....and, "an actual new yorker" well, anyone in the metro area of about 20 mil people would probably be called that, not only the sal's mario's and vinny's, non-english speaking majority of the city, nor only the wealthy folks, it is a wide wide area

i'm sorry but i just saw this thread.

i haven't lived in ny since 1993.....but i did go back a few times for business (last time 2001) & stayed at a best western by the southstreet seaport

i think you would want to stay around that area (lower part of manhattan) because you would be near grenwich village & soho....these places have a lot of night life (bars don't close). you also are close (walking distance) to chinatown, little italy, wall street & the world trade center site.

just an fyi be prepared to get gouged in hotel taxes....

i would start making reservations now because these places fill up quickly.

when you do find a place that interests you...let mknow before you make reservations...i'll try to keep you guys out of the rough areas.

We met this weekend and have a "meeting" scheduled for next month.... (Thought it was a great reason to get together once a month for the guys.... Poker, beer, away from the wives....)

We've changed the weekend to July 20-24 because there was a scheduling problem with a local golf tourney in August.... See, fellas, that's why you get together months in advance.

I've been put in charge of Boston, so to speak.... As far as hotel arrangements.... I like the ideas above and will probably look for a hotel in the area that Shamrock and Blitz suggested.... I also had a local guy here that's from that area confirm exactly what the two of you said.... (sham & blitz, could I possibly get your e-mails from Jack after he returns from the SB party or could you get mine from him and drop me a line? I might like to run some things by you....)

I'm wondering about tickets.... 8 in a row?!?!?! I figure we're already in the outfield because this group ain't gonna cough up 2 or 3 c-notes a piece for a seat.... Has anyone got any ticket connections with some season-ticket holding locals???

I'd still like to hear all other opinions, as any little nugget of information is helpful.... (I'm sending my buddy who's "in charge" of NYC a link to this thread....)

T, your more than welcom to get my email anytime. Single game tickets went on sale this past Saturday, and I heard on the news they have already broken records for early ticket sales. How fussy are you about Tickets? Sitting on top of the Green monster is a unique experience.

I would stay in Copley square, at the Marriott or the Westin if you want to walk to Fenway. if you want to stay around Quincy market, stay at long wharf Marriott. Although you would definitely then need a cab to get ball Park.
