I am heading down to New Orleans May 6-9 for a friend's bachelor party. I was wondering if any of you had any feedback as far as where to go and what to do. That first Thursday we arrive in the afternoon and the plan is pretty much to relax and go to the Harrah's to play some tables. How is this casino...I think I've heard it's pretty large. Does it have a lot of table play? Will it be very crowded on a Thursday this time of year? Is this place the best gambling option? We are staying in the French Quarter, so I think the harrahs is pretty close by? That could be trouble late nights when I'm drunk!

As far as the bachelor party, what are the best strip clubs in town? We will probably go to 1 nice meal when we are down there, any suggestions for the local flavor at a nice place?? Anything else we should do/see while down there?

Thanks in advance to any answers.

I'm not only the PRESIDENT..I'm also a client.

My birthday is May 9th, so there is a very good chance that we may be in New Orleans that weekend (probably be in Biloxi though..)

Casino on Thursday night is THE time to go, I wouldn't even try Harrah's on Fri or Sat as all the table will be full and they raise the ante, so unless you're REALLY going to swing hard at em and play some $25/$50 blackjack..FU-GED-A-BOUD-IT !

If you are staying in the French Quarter, Harrah's is within walking distance , and really is your best option. From the French Quarter you are in walking distance of Larry FLynt's Hustler Club and Rick's Caberet (upscale joints) and you have some of the other seedier types of places where you can go and see how other half live..Big Daddy's etc..

BOURBON STREET has a little bit for all you guys.

Karaoke at Cat's Meow
Piano Bar at Pat O Brien's
Hand Grenades at the Tropical Isle
Little Hole in the Wall Bars like Johnny White's

As for nice places to eat, Smith and Wolensky has a restaurant off of Poydras (not very far..almost walking distance) if you are lookin for a steak...Houston's Restaurant has the best ribs in New Orleans..that's on Veterans..a little farther away...NOT walking distance.

I haven't been to the 'Street' in a few years as I am now almost 30 and am about 10-15 years older than the median age there (you do the math), but my little sis is getting married this summer to a redneck from Alabama, so we're going do it up right at least one weekend in the Quarter..

Just watch out for the obvious lowlifes you'll see on the side of the road...every big city has em, stay where the people are, no need to be Lewis and Clark or Dora the Explorer...

Have some drinks, bring some Mardi Gras beads (the streets can be the best place to see some nice tits)..and have FUN !!

When you have a few guys together, it always seems to be a good time...you may want to bring along a camera or at least tape recorder, just for the record, as I know personally, I lost MANY nights there in my younger years, would love to know who or what happened and with and to whom....

New Orleans is my favorite city. It is a great city if you like to eat and drink. Also a lot of history there to see. Here is a list of things i enjoyed.

"Restaurants"

Nola's
Reasonable price, very good food, emerald is the owner/chef, Around $20 a plate

Mr. B's Bistro
BBQ SHRIMP, that is what i always get, its fantastic

Gallatoir
Very good food, $20 - $25 plate, BEEF is EXCELLENT

"Dessert"

Cafe Du Mond
Famous for Beignets (like a powder donut). Very nice to go walk over there and sit and eat. Very popular place and nice to sit outside.

"Breakfast"

Brennans's
Pre-Fix breakfast, menu set, $35
TURTLE SOUP, ENTREE, DESERT- Banana Foster
MUST GO THERE, very very good, but expensive.

Court of 2 sisters is a very good brunch as well.

I LOVE TO DRINK, and if you do too, New Orleans is the place to be. There are 3 drinks i stuff myself with because you basically only can get them in New Orleans.

Hurricane, Mint Julep (my favorite), and SAZERAC. These are the 2 best places to get these drinks.

Pat O' Briens
Famous for the Hurricane and Mint Julep

FAIRMOUNT HOTEL, famous for the SAZERAC

Things i have done in my last 3 times staying there........
Paddle Boat on Miss. River tour
Cemetery interesting to see (only daytime)
Flea Market
St. Charles Cathedral
Harrah's Casino
Aquarium (albino Alligator)
Plantations

You do a lot of walking and sightseeing in the French Quarter and many open shops. Very fun city to walk around. Maybe go into a club to hear some jazz. Eat a PO BOY (i like catfish and shrimp po boys) for lunch. Also always enjoy bringing home peanut brittle too.

saint, Im jealous bro, havent been to New 'awlins yet, have only heard outstanding things. have done a lot of research on it, if you go out for a fancy meal Id take commanders palace over emerills, it's better I heard from everyone and price around same. Bar-wise Im sure bourbon has it all and I heard the hurricanes at o'briens are great and strong, Im sure theres tons of bars around there, but dont wander off that area some pretty bad ghettos, some cool plantations and maybe take a boat ride in the miss. river or the bayou probably pretty cool, enjoy, gimme a report when you get back as Im trying to get there in the near future
