But, of course, Texas still has Mack Brown and Greg Davis and they are capable of stopping the Texas offense without any help from USC.

please...you would be hammering them against Va Tech or Alabama or Missouri School for the Blind or whomever...please dont act as if there has been some rational objective criteria behind the "play"...you said the same schpeel last year and Bob Stoops may be lots of things but he isnt Mack Brown..

my point exactly.....mack brown is no bob stoops and bob stoops got worked over by pete carroll....

personally i believe that even as pedestrian as va tech's offense is, they give sc the toughest matchup....not sure that game will happen however.

beamer wont get completely outclassed like mack brown and sc special teams have been shaky.....a trademark of beamer ball....plus their defense has the speed to hang with sc

Urban Meyer talks about SEC Defense.

Urban Meyer talks about SEC Defense.

This is great

USC is ranked No. 1 as usual, but it is also ranked No. 75. At least in the NCAA Division I-A rankings for pass defense.
That's not quite as bad as two years ago, when USC ranked in the high 90s in pass defense for most of the season, but once again illustrates that Tailback U. is not close to becoming Cornerback U., and that a bend-but-don't-break philosophy seems to rule the Pacific-10 Conference.

The common argument is that the Pac-10 features high-powered offenses that cannot be stopped. Last week, five of the top 11 scoring offenses in the nation were Pac-10 schools.

"That just screams about the Pac-10 offenses," USC coach Pete Carroll said.

Maybe. The Trojans do allow an unimpressive 231.75 yards per game, which is surprising because Carroll's background is coaching the secondary.

It is true the Trojans are depleted at cornerback with Eric Wright, Terrell Thomas and John Walker - all former starters - either no longer in school or injured.

It got so bad last week that safety Josh Pinkard was converted to cornerback, although he's so athletic he might turn into the Trojans' best corner. In fact, Pinkard's so good, he not only covered Washington State's receivers, he did an admirable job keeping coach Bill Doba from getting bumped by USC players in the Coliseum tunnel.

But even with USC's depth problems, maybe, just maybe, other conferences play better defense than the Pac-10. Florida coach Urban Meyer learned his lesson before last week's 14-10 victory against No. 4 Georgia. Meyer was forced to scrap his spread-option offense last weekend because it couldn't compete against the Southeastern Conference's fast defenses.

"What we did is evaluate the SEC," Meyer said. "This is as new to me as being satisfied with scoring two touchdowns or trying to score three touchdowns in a game.

"I'm not comfortable with that, but I am comfortable with winning and putting your players in the best possible position to win. So if that means being much more conservative ..."

Meyer significantly decreased use of the option, shovel pass and five-receiver formations against Georgia, and the Gators scored as many touchdowns as they did in losses to Alabama and LSU.

"When you're playing a team that has such speed as LSU or Georgia, running laterally just doesn't make a lot of sense unless you're matching their speed,"Meyer said.

I am a newbie in the forums but I am into college football big time, first I dont know how one can sit there and talk about great qbs and not talk about micheal vick, if SC had Marcus Vick they would be unstoppable, but instead they have a QB who is the most overhyped player since Ryan Leaf. If Lienhart doesn't complete a pass it is amazing to me with his OL giving him all day every time and him having all star recievers wherever he looks. That being said I do think Pac-10 has defense but their stats might be lower than east coast because teams in Pac-10 are so explosive. I dont know why we have to talk about SC like its the Pac-10 conference, with Cal UCLA ASU Oregon?!?!?!?! I think anyone of those teams is a very good team and can take anyone in country besides VT Texas and Miami.

How did Leinart perform last year? Did he win a Heisman Trophy? Did USC win the BCS National Championship?

USC had an inexperienced OL, inexperienced WR corps, inexperienced FB, starting TE out of half the year, starting WR out half the year etc etc etc.

After Palmer left USC people said they have nobody to replace Palmer. Leianrt takes over and leads USC to an AP National Championship. After that year people said Leinart is only good because of Mike Williams and Keary Colbert at WR etc. etc. etc. Leinart leads USC to a BCS NC last season despite having brand new OL, brand new WR's, new FB, etc etc etc.

THis year Leinart is only good because of his OL, WR's RB's etc etc etc.

Next year people will say USC will drop off with Leinart gone. But you will see Booty who may even be better! :scared

Everyone always knocks on poor USC. USC keeps proving everyone wrong again and again and again! :lol2

Time to start giving respect they deserve instead of making up excuses.

Scott,
This is kinda personal of a question but just how high did you get playing football?
High School?
College?
Pro?
You can rip off stats with the best of em and your capping skills are mighty good also.
Just wondering ...

FLAG FOOTBALL!

:142smilie :142smilie :142smilie

I went to small private Catholic High School where there was no football. If they had football I def. would have played and prob. be a tight end. Maybe LB on D. I had great hands! Flag football ended in 6th or 7th grade! :( But I enjoyed it.

My sport was BASEBALL! I was starting pitcher and 1b.

Thanks for the nice compliments! :thumb:

Weis never played and was just a student at ND! Amazes me how far he has come. Props to him!

How about yourself? I wonder how many people here played College and maybe even Professionally. I also think many pro atheletes come here to get picks and bet. Also prob. enjoy reading about their team and themselves when others analyze them.
