If the poor can obtain revenue through the federally funded welfare program. Now, if they can also receive free medical care.......

Where is the incentive/motivation to get a job and be a productive part of society?

Seems like this setup only encourages folks to continue to rely on the gov't.

Is that the type of society we really want?

You Racist ! Did you just get your Sheet back from the cleaners ? :mj07: :142smilie

How dare you question the motive of those who managed the stregth to chant "Yes we can!" over and over again, yet can't put one foot in front of the other and apply ink to paper for a job application.

Welfare has been considerably reduced, starting with the Clinton administration and continuing through the Bush Administration. There is now very little cash payment, and what there is usually limited to five years/lifetime.

Your assumption that people will prefer to rely on the government rather than seek to get ahead on their own effort is not very sound.

Think about it, learn about it, and you will realize that a life of simply relying on the government will deprive you of everything other than the most basic subsistence. You will never own a home or anything else of significant value, buy a new car, save for retirement, take a vacation, send your kids to college, or have anything else other than just enough to stay alive.

If that's the life you want to live, then go ahead, take advantage of every government program you can find; try to live on it.

You will be miserable. You will have nothing more than the bare minimum which will keep you alive. If you are physically and mentally able, you will prefer to work.

Better yet, go eat a few meals at your local soup kitchen, alongside the truly poor. See how many of them you think are actually capable of taking care of themselves, how many are simply leaches on society. Damned few.

Why do we as a society help to poorest among us? Why did Jesus of Nazareth feed the masses, why did he wash the feet of the leper?

It's called compassion.

Oh, and when you go to that soup kitchen, take this a-hole with you -

You Racist ! Did you just get your Sheet back from the cleaners ? - Illuminati

You'll find most of the folks there are white.

Isn't there numerous welfare programs?....food stamps, section 8 housing etc etc?

It may be true that most recipients only receive AFDC assistance for 5 years....however, that statistic is deceiving if they are receiving other assistance.

When calling me an A-HOLE, please use CAPS.

I have worked the shelters during disasters, I know what they are like, I have served in the chow lines, I have broken up fights, attempted rapes, have had make shift knives pulled on me and even guns. So I know what these places are like.

I have been extremely iratable the last 5+ days, started with a migraine on monday and I took my normal migrane meds, the headache carried on thru thime my kids were still here and I promised my ex-wife I wouldn't induldge in Herb while the kids were here. Weds they left and I hit my migraine meds again, being that I'm really not supposed to take the more than twice in a 3 day period, and I cannot take any OTC pain relievers ! The pain is so fargin bad I can't sleep without burning a whole bowl. Good thing I tossed all the cookies and chips out when the kids left, all I have is cherries, cheese, and almonds. The whipped cream is for my gf :SIB

Without my goodies, I could be worse :mj07:

No offense Illumie, but it has shown severely the last few days.

InSummary:

  1. You join a discussion.
  2. Someone asks for elaboration or provides contrasting view points
  3. You tell them that they haven't walked in you shoes whether in war or philanthropy
  4. Then when they back off you excuse your rebuttal with whatever for the day.
I confront you to these facts because this is a discussion forum and I thought that the reoccurance could be a blind spot for you.

I say this with all sincerety but wasn't sure if you'd noticed the patterns lately

It takes an opinion from the outside to point out what others faults are. The individual can take it for what it's worth, or the the other involved to get bent.

In youR case......

GET BENT

That is true--it was reduced after they voted the dems out in mid term elections in Slicks 1st term. While many credit him with welfare reform he actually vetoed bill twice before rebs shoved it down their throats with "contract with America"

However we got same scenerio as before as Gumby has already increased welfare and foodstamps for da base sliding through as 1/3 of stimulus bill.
Their moto--never let a good crisis go to waste.

wow. Yep. There are also some programs out there for the illiterate. Might want to look into them.

Wayne, your "da base" shit is so tired. There are more people with post graduate degrees than high school drop outs who support Obama. There are more people who make more than 100k a year than those that make less than 30k who support Obama....etc, etc, etc....I trust you actually know this, but you keep on with your "gumby" and "da base" shit. It really is absurd.
