The F1 fever and Villeneuvemania is in town!

BTW, Villeneuve was here in Sherbrooke on tuesday night at a local concert while Panis and Hakkinen were doing Quads and Seadoo in a nice place not so far from Montreal. There is also a famous place were drivers (some of them)like to go while they are in here:the well famous topless bar "Chez Par?" but no, i'm not going to give you names!

Oh man, it is so much fun being so close of a F1 race. You can get all the infos needed!
wink.gif

ok, let's get serious

data:
Length: 4,421 km

Nb of Laps: 69 (305,049 Km)

Best Lap:
M. Hakkinen - 1'19"049
(2000, McLaren-Mercedes)

Record Pole:
D. Coulthard - 1'18"213
(98, McLaren-Mercedes)

2000 Pole:
M. Schumacher - 1'18"439
(Ferrari)

2000 Podium:
Schumacher - Barrichello - Fisichella

On Gilles Villeneuve track, we could say that M. Schum is the master of the pole! Having 5 pole position over the last 7 years and won the race here 4 times during that time. As always, a strong contenders. BMW/Williams have a powerful engine and that track has long straight lines that permit overtaking and high speed. An advantage for them? Well, it will depend of Michelin tyres. If they hold on, we could see Montoya or Ralf at a nice place on the starting grid.
The track is probably the hardest of all on brakes because of it's two chicanes so the set up will be vital. About the weather forecast, so far we have 30% of rain for the weekend so it shouldn't be a factor.

Jacques Villeneuve had spent most of the week at his new restaurant "newtown" (means villeneuve in french)and he seems in a great state of mind. Told to journalists that he will try for a podium but honestly, he doesn't have the car to make it! Even thought Jacques has curiously been unlucky (is it because his roots are here or because the track has been name in honor of his father?) in Montreal, i expect him to have a good qualifying and will definitely put $$$ on him unless lines reaches sky high!

I've talked to Mark at camelot and we might have some qualifying match ups too! With OLY and GCS (and betroyal for the race). We are starting to have plenty of lines in F1!

Free practice report:

Disastrous day for villeneuve who hit the wall after a broken suspension on his 16th lap. He said that Montoya (who else!) hit him in the back and that might explain his mechanical problem. He is very upset at Montoya and was unable to continue hit set up on the car (just 16 laps while others did over 40!)because of the accident. He has tomorrow am for the last practice session before qualifying to make it back up front the grid. Just a day to forget for Jacques

Here's what i found:

Villeneuve sees red after practice shunt
?I am furious with Montoya.? [09/06/01 - 00:22]

Juan Pablo Montoya

Williams driver, Juan Pablo Montoya has provoked 1997 world champion, Jacques Villeneuve into a blistering attack after they came together during the first practice session of Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix on Friday. Villeneuve and Montoya clashed during the session and a lap later Villeneuve hit the barrier hard after his BAR snapped out of control while doing 150 mp/h on the exit of turn five.

Thankfully the Canadian escaped unscathed from the incident, however he didn't hesitate to blame the rookie driver, who earlier this season also induced Michael Schumacher into a similar outburst when the two came together in the Austrian Grand Prix. Villeneuve explained that he had been hit up the back by Juan Pablo Montoya before the accident and the Canadians made sure the Colombian knew he was far from impressed.

"I was actually at the point where I was deciding to brake and I just came off the throttle and turned into the wall,? he explained. ?Juan Pablo ran into the back to me a couple of laps before the crash. I am upset because it must be the fifth or sixth time this year that he's been blocking and he's on a mission for something. Normally when you get blocked, I've blocked some people also, you try to get out of the way and sometimes you don't make it but you still make an effort and give some room to the other person. I am furious with Montoya. It is not the first time that he has tried this manoeuvre. I tried already to get an explanation out of him but he doesn't appear to understand. Maybe he isn't intelligent enough to understand and if he isn't intelligent enough to comprehend then maybe we will have to teach him a lesson on the track."

Damage to the BAR was substantial, in that a new tub is required to build up a car for today's qualifying session.

Maybe a block from Villeuve on Montoya during qualifying?

I am never lost. I just know to wait and watch. You get it all in order with enough time to make up our minds. No problem. And yes I believe you are right many selections. So we will just have more fun.
