Canisius College, off to its best start since the 2000-01 season, opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play tonight at Fairfield in Bridgeport, Conn.

The Golden Griffins (4-1) have been idle since beating Maryland-Baltimore County, 83-65, on Nov. 29, snapping a 10-game road losing streak.

The four victories in the month of November are the most in school history for the Golden Griffins.

Canisius is the lone Big 4 men?s team playing tonight. The University at Buffalo (3-7) hosts Niagara University (3-5) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Arena, while St. Bonaventure (5-2) has a 3 p.m. game at Arkansas State (4-3).

The Griffs have not won a MAAC road game since Feb. 11, 2011, a span of 11 games. Canisius is looking to halt a 12-game conference losing streak. Their last league win came Jan. 13, 2012 against Marist at home.

The Griffs backcourt is performing well.

Junior guard Billy Baron leads the team and ranks fourth in the MAAC in scoring at 17.8 points per game, and has scored in double figures in all five games this year.

Baron had a game-high seven assists at Maryland-Baltimore County, and he starts tonight?s game averaging 6.0 assists per game, which ranks second in the league and 25th nationally.

Senior guard Harold Washington enters the game averaging 17.2 points per game this season, which ranks second on the team and sixth in the league. Fairfield comes into the game with a 4-4 record after beating Austin Peay last Saturday.
