Canker Sores

I've got a nasty canker sore anybody know any remedies for them???

Can't find any alum in Northern Virginia been to 5 grocery stores and 4 pharmacies. I've had it for 2 days and it hurts :cursin: :cursin:

right from the doctors home remdeies book latset addadition.

can pick this up at any rx have used it when mouth was sore due to snuff. might have to ask at the rx where it is. Gly-oxide works great made from glycerine and peroxide makes a invisable type badaid and works fast takes pain away and you can eat. the best IMO

potassium chlorate 1 teaspoon in a cup of water rinse every few hours don't swallow. said to be old midwest remedy .

place a wet black tea bag on the sore also will take pain away as well as heal.

2 table spoons of hydrogen peroxide with 8 oz of water and inse for 30 secs every hour.

mylanta swish around in mouth for 30 secs then spit it out.

number 1 works great pain will be gone in 10 secs and with the coating you can eat and not even have it bother you need to put it on about every 4-6 hours but it is great, the mylanta works but not as good have used it for sore gums have heard about the balck tea but never used it. i say get number 1 and use the mylanta and also rinse with the peroxide. you will thank me for number 1

ok you want to know how to get rid of em....well I'll tell ya:



get in front of mirror......take napkin...dry canker (no saliva)...wet finger.....put salt on finger....then put salt DIRECTLY on canker sore...it will hurt like hell.....but it will get rid of it.....depending on how much pain you can handle.....repeat process 3 or 4 times!

You can try to buy something with Benzocaine in it, for example you can get Orabase over the counter with 20% benzocaine. It will mostly act as pain relief and coat the ulcer from further irritation. From personal experience, I agree with Dr. S and would also suggest gargling w/ warm salt water a few times a day.

both are used, although the official name is an apthous ulcer.

take a vitamin c pill that is not coated. Put it directly on the sore and hold it there for a few minutes. It will burn a little, but it will be healed up in less that 24 hours.

If you're still looking for the alum, you might want to try Preston's Pharmacy on Lee Hwy. (5100 block) in Arlington. They're one of the last bastions of independent pharmacies and still compound prescriptions if needed.
