Car Burglary Suspect Arrested After Locking Himself In Trunk
FRESNO, Calif. -- Police say a man's attempt to steal some items inside a car didn't work out very well.
A security guard in Fresno called police when he heard a banging noise coming from the inside of a trunk early Sunday morning.
When authorities arrived, they expected to find a victim locked inside the trunk.
Instead they found what a spokesman for the Fresno County Sheriff's Department describes as "the dumbest criminal of the day."
Police say it appears the man popped the lock on the trunk, crawled inside and ransacked its contents.
But when he tried to heave himself out, he closed the trunk on top of him.
The suspect was taken to a hospital to be treated for cuts. He was then booked on two counts of theft.
Police did not release the name of the suspect.
