My friend needs tires for a 2001 Ford Mustang Convertible.

The original tires are 245 / 45 ZR / 17.

He found a brand new set of four Dunlop FM 901's at a very good price.

But the size is 225 / 45 ZR / 17 (narrower width?)

Although he's read where the 225 size is interchangeable with the 245, he's also been told to stay with the 245 because of the way the computer is set up to control the ABS braking system.

Is this absolutely true or can he use the 225 tire and still be worry free about the different tire size and the ABS braking system?

Thanks,
buddy

Here
you may get some false alarms if you change sizes the abs light may come on

Just put new tires on my wifes Z3 and that is what BMW told me.

Your buddy can do whatever he wants with the width of the tire. He needs to be concerned with the diameter of the tire in regards to the ABS system. If he is changing all four tires and they will be the same diameter, then he should have no problems at all.

BTW, the car might look a little funny with those narrow tires. :)
