http://www.drjeffcornwall.com/2009/03/some-reactions-to-employee-fre.html

Susan Eckerly, senior vice president, public policy for the National Federation of Independent Business, said this about the bill:

"For small business owners, it's a nightmare to see this bill resurrected from the grave in which the last Congress rightly laid it to rest.

"The Employee Free Choice Act will not only subvert a long-standing democratic process, it's an attempt to overturn more than 60 years of established labor law. The last thing small business owners need is a government official stepping to dictate the wages and benefits they offer their employees.

"It's also difficult to understand the union claim that this law is needed to 'level the playing field,' when unions have won an average of nearly 60 percent of the union elections held since 2000.

"This can only be interpreted as an attack on our country's principal job creators and therefore, the economy as a whole. This was a bad bill in 2007 and the ensuing years haven't made it any more palatable. NFIB and its members will do everything in our power to defeat it again."

I'm not sure but I believe in this bill that voting to unionize will no longer be done by secret ballot. :nono: Its definitely "Change."

Here's a pretty interesting opinion article from the NY Post about this. I hadn't heard a lot about what she writes about.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/03112009/postopinion/opedcolumnists/labors_love_lost__158959.htm

I think this piece (although opinion) shows that the "management" for unions is just as shrewd as any "management" team on the business side.

This whole thing seems slimy to me.

ga_ben - the reason I'm against this is in-line with the story that kosar posted. A lot of "arm twisting". Without a secret ballot, how much bullying will go on for the workers who don't favor a union forming to vote for it or be "out of the club"?

Definitely. I also found the possible Reid vs. Pelosi showdown(not public, of course, but implied) interesting. Two total disasters of 'leaders', but Pelosi at least did the right thing for once.

Yeah Jason, that was my point. Its easy to see how intimidation could be used. I'm glad to read that support in the Senate is waning on this bill.

I didn't want to admit it because I really think she's an evil bitch, but I did like her move.... even though it was simply throwing someone else under the bus for the bill getting shot down.

lol- true. But throwing Reid under the bus isn't much of an issue in my opinion.

Maybe throw one under a bus the other under a 18 wheeler. How old is that witch anyway. I heard 67? She has had face work done if true.

I don't see anything that would lead you to think that...

It's the free choice act meaning you have a choice. You can sign the card or still vote in secret.

Just listening to Ed Schultz on this issue, and according to him, the vote is up to the employees, whether it's secret or not. The one thing it does do is set a specific time after the vote when an arbitrator will come in, to prevent the employer from stonewalling. I don't have a strong opinion on this, and don't know enough about it - just passing along what I heard.

The US use to make everything, what do they make now? Everything is made in China, we went from a manufacturing country to a service country and i got to say service sucks. When people stand together they have power, republicunts don't want you standing together, they want you working for $5.00 an hour. No union, no benefits. Don't send your kids to college, don't buy a house. These are things only rich people can do. Republicunts want a 2 class system, working poor and rich. China is going to be the leaders of the world, say in about 20-30 years. The biggest economy, military and hold most of the world's gold. While the US falls into 3rd world hood.
