Hey guys,

Was curious to know peoples opinions and experiences with getting their carpets cleaned. For the last few years I've been using a few different ChemDry franchises in my area. Well, I just had a nightmare of a time just trying to get one of them out here for an appointment recently, so I got fed up and called one of these big steam cleaning companies to come do the job. This is my first experience with steam cleaning and they're here doing the job now. I've head that it's more effective, but that it takes longer to dry. Don't know if there are any other downsides. People say that the carbonated water method is good because it drys faster and the job is quick, but I read into it a little bit yesterday and it sounds like it's only effective in getting the filth out of the top 1/3rd of the carpet. Plus, it just seems to me that using one of those buffing machines with a dirty pad on the carpet would just spread all the dirt that comes up from the carpet.

Does anyone have experiences or reviews of one method vs the other? Anyone know if either is more effective in getting out pet smells/stains?

TIA :0008

I was in carpet cleaning sales over 20 years ago ... there is no comparison in CLEANING carpets than putting the steaming water down and sucking it back out ... it is correct that the ChemDry method only "top dresses" your carpet

as far as pet stains there is a HUGE difference in dogs/cats ... with cats you are pretty much screwed if its a bad problem ... dogs you need to not only clean the top but also the back of the carpet and change out the padding ... you can clean all you want but the urine penetrates the padding and accumulates the odors over time

Steam cleaning is the only way to go I just had mine done and my old 10 year old carpet looks new and all stains are gone, I was thinking I was going to have to do a carpet allowance when I sold it and it looks new...I did the chemdry method 3 times before and there is no comparison to the way it looks now, steam clean all the way

Thanks guys. Just got home from work and the carpets look and smell great. They actually dried out a lot faster than I thought. Glad I went with "steam". I'm done with those chemdry guys.
