I think you are wrong about the NFL being racist actually.

Believe me, these owners are about winning and making money, I am willing to bet they could care less the color of their head coach.

How come theres no rule in the NBA that you have to let white guys try out since theres hardly any white americans any more? How is that any different from the argument made for black head coaches?

Give me a break.

You are right when you look at it that way. The NFL is not racist but it is just an organization that can be bullied into things. They have enough bad press from the players so the league can't take some as well.
The owners just want two things out of a coach: (1) The best coach and (2) The guy they want and not the guy the league wants them to take.

I think Frazier took the interview because he is so very close to being a NFL coach and turning something like this into a big race deal interview would only cast a negative light on him. Of course he could of said that he was to busy right now getting ready for playoffs and call me afterwards if I am a true candidate and you are still interested.

As for the NBA, I will never forget the joke Letterman said when interviewing Jordan one night.
Letterman asked Jordan why his all black shoes wear banned by the NBA.
Jordan's answer was "Well it doesn't have any white in it."
Letterman said "Well neither does the NBA."
Jordan could not stop laughing.

What percent of NFL players are black?

As of 2009 opening day rosters approximately 65% of NFL players are African-American, which includes players of "mixed-race" background as well as Samoan and Polynesian decent.

What is the total number of players in the NBA?

Each team may have 15 players on their roster, 12 of which may dress for each game. Since there are 30 teams in the league, at any one time there is a maximum of 450 players on NBA rosters.

So at 82% black

There are 81 white guys :scared

That seems like discrimination to me

Houston Texans GM Rick Smith is black so does he have to meet the Rooney rule?

Also what if he doesn't bring in a white guy for a interview.
Does the Rooney rule work both ways??

I will start by saying I am white and don't want to offend anyone but this is just me.

I think the "Rooney Rule" is more offensive than it is helpful.

The Seahawks are going to interview Leslie Frazier even though it is a known done deal with Pete.

This is a 100% joke.

The rule was put in place so minorities would have a fair chance a jobs, I GUESS. How is what Seattle is doing giving someone a chance anyway?

Dennis Green told the Cowboys that he was not going to be the black guy just to fill the rule when everyone knew they were hiring Parcells.

Is the NFL that racist these days that they still need a rule to force owners to interview minorities????

Is it just me?

I'll disagree with you by saying this:

There is a good representation of black coaches now in NFL.....as opposed to College football.

Interviews are like anything else in life....the more you do the better you get.

What if in the course of this interview you blow the doors off the team with your acumen....and Pete Carroll falls through....ala Billy Donovan and Bill Belicheck with Jets etc. If you're looking to get promoted you should take any interview to move up no matter what the odds stacked against you. Leslie Frazier is one small step closer now...if he interviewed well.

Well I agree with you that is does create a chance for A GUY. That is the insult part of it saying you must interview at least 1 minority.
Some have been offended in the past like I said of Dennis Green.
It is a nice rule to have but does it really need to be enforced if the team fired the coach after 1 season and has the guy they want lined up the same day they fired him?
If it is a coaching search then I am good with the rule but in the case of Parcells,Kubiak, and now Carroll there was really no neeed for the song and dance with anyone black or white.

Jack Delrio has a interview Monday for his own job. Wayne Weaver is not happy with Jack on several issues. If it does not go well he could end up in Usc.
