Yesterday was the first time I have seen umpires stay in town and work the next series. For instance, last year they didn't even work the fourth game in a 4 game series. I remember I got screwed when they changed crews in a double header. This year I have seen some odd things, same ump work two games in a row, crews are working fourth game this year or in one case, first game in 4 game series. Last year they usually had a day or two off between series, this year they are working two and three weeks without a break.

I noticed that Covers. com is listing the crews that worked yesterday while Umps 2001 is claiming not to know who is working the games. I am going to take a wait and see position. When I know who is working the first game, I should know who is working the rest of them. They will switch all of them or none of them. Don't be surprised either way.

And . . . the umps are pissed at all the news stories about pitch counts. They could react by calling MORE strikes like MLB seems to be asking them or by calling FEWER strikes to tell MLB to go foop themselves.

I do know that the reds/det series will have a new umpiring crew today. was listening to the game on radio and that was being discussed about how the same crew from last series was doing game 1 and a new crew was taking over for the rest of the series.
