Why I like NIU

Ohio University- Top 50 Total Offenses they have faced this year ONE, New Mexico St at 48th...:scared :scared Top 50 Rushing Offenses they have faced ONE Temple, and they got ramrodded for 31 points and 308 Yards rushing:scared :scared The average of the rest were 85 in rushing. There numbers are very skewed against the rush now they play Northern Illinois is #8 in Rushing Offense.

Northern Illinois has faced 4 Top 50 Offenses in Wisconsin, Toledo, Western Michigan and Army. They went 3-1 beating Army by 23, Western Michigan by 29, Toledo by 3, and lost to Wisky by 42 points. Ohio is 18th in Total Offense.

NIU has also faced 4 Top 50 Defenses in Wisky, Army, Kent St, and Eastern Michigan going 3-1 in those games, winning by 23, 30, and 6 points.....losing to Wisky by 42. Ohio is 36th in Total Defense.

As for NIU, you take away the Wisky and Toledo games in which they gave up almost 1300 yards and 109 points, and the rest of the season is not as glaring. Keep in mind that NIU beat Toledo 63-60 which is what got them here.

NIU has played a much tougher scheduele

As for Ohio, one MUST be concerned that their Rushing Defense might not be as good as the numbers indicate. They played the 3rd easiest scheduele in the country against the run..

NIU HAS THE 12TH BEST O IN THE COUNTRY- JUST DONT SEE OHIO STOPPING THEM -Nor putting enough points up.

Thunder, long time lurker and thank you for all your posts and insight. I am a huge UCLA fan and do not see how they don't let up 50+, especially after last weeks effort. Is the UCLA play based on lack of motivation on the Ducks side? The 32 point lead is nice, but looks like 35-7 at the break and your sweating out the 2nd half. Thanks again

Here is the scoop - UCLA didnt show up last week because for the last 2 weeks they have been preparing for Oregon. Now it backfired because NEWSY lost his job. But truth be it thets what they have been doing. Joe tresey
was brought in to stop Oregon d or at least slow it down- which he did Against Chips O at new hampshire and he was at georgia southern 5 times his teams faced his o all 5 covering. Oregon has not beat anyone on conference by this margin accept Colorodo who didnt even get off the bus. UCLA PLayed another O similar to oregon in Houston and UCLA almost pulled it out. NEWSY IS a good coach and great motivator that the players adore. They carried him off the field yesterday in there last full practice. Ucla got beat by prolific qbs that throw the deep ball well- not oregons forte. they do tend to matchup better against the run, and UCLA's running ame is pretty impressive when they are in the game. Some made the point that the game was 56-10 last year and nothing has changed, but Oregon is not playing at the same level as last year and they have lost some key players on defense like mathews and their shutdown corner Harris. UCLA is also a better team.I also don't buy that Oregon is that motivated to play in the rose bowl after being in the national championship game last year and having a shot to go back this year before their loss to USC. UCLA has a fiarly nice size advantage in teh trenches even if their speed on defense leaves something to be desired.
I Think we are getting 8 points value here because of the USC game. Add in the xfactors of not only familiarity of Tressey and a bcs game on the line catching 5 scores with a team that can run the ball against a team who gives up 140 on the ground -These are newsys guys i think they play very inspired . My buddies were suprised at the line and so am I. You may be thinking of the game last year but alot has changed -Orego was ranked 7th last year when they faced and UCLA and needed stlyle points they went for it 4 times on 4th down after a 28 point lead. They are not in the national champ hunt now and winning by 35 points without mathews or Harris there stud cb-against a better Motivated UCLA TEAM THAN last year has no bearing. I have Oregon 34-21 -with maybe a little luck a closer gamethan that.

Spot on handicapping on the Ohio game. Ohio might be in trouble tonight as their schedule was definitely weaker than NIU's and it might be a step up in class for the Cats. NIU slept walk last week against Eastern, and they have a revenge factor from last year's game losing to Miami. OU has a lot of fight, and are very fast (for the MAC), and I think they can score against NIU. But their D scares me for the points you have made....and one thing you didn't mention is they can be thrown on as well, even though they didn't face real good throwing teams. Alot of the rushing yards they have given up have come from scrambling QB's, and NIU has the best in the MAC. They couldn't stop the Temple QB (and the OU game was the first real action their current QB got), and it is evident OU has trouble with a contained pash rush, and rely on pressure from their LB's and FS. It will be hard for me to bet against my old team, but I have done it before...if I'm wrong, I won't be too upset. :0074 But nice write up on the game. :toast:

No offense Thunder because I follow your plays and think it is awesome what you give you to the site but...

Houston and Oregon's offense are not similar except for the fact they both spread it out. That is where the similarity ends.
