I know we have all had plenty of conversation about the side in the BSC TITLE game.

plenty have good reasons for Bama

plenty have good reasons for Ndame

what does everyone think of the total?

currently sits at 40 and some places 40.5

all the talk has been about both defenses. I am sure the public is going to hear it and automatically think of the under as the correct play

anyone like over 40?

anyone like under 40?

curious to see what the best site around thinks

BCS National Championship Game - Alabama vs. Notre Dame (Monday, January 7, 8:30 ET): This may not be an all SEC matchup like last season, but this year's BCS Championship Game does put the top two scoring defenses in the country, with Notre Dame leading the land allowing 10.3 points per game and Alabama second at 10.7, further proof that "Defense wins championships!" The difference in this game though is that the Alabama offense is far superior, especially the running game. Alabama averaged 38.5 points and 439.1 yards per game while facing mostly SEC defenses, and they rank 24th in rushing offense after rushing for 350 yards vs. Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. Notre Dame meanwhile averaged 26.7 points and it had quite a few narrow escapes this year vs. questionable competition, especially while beating Pittsburgh in overtime and BYU and Purdue by three points each. Yes the Irish also had nice wins over Stanford and Oklahoma, but can they play at that level vs. an SEC opponent as that conference seeks its seventh straight national title? The 'under' is 45-21-2, 68.2 percent in Notre Dame's last 68 non-conference games

Bama is near the top of the nation in redzone defense, while ND is bottom 10 nationally in red zone offense. FGs for ND = under IMO

ND is really in the bottom 10?

Wow I knew they were down, but not there....

Something tells me they are more efficient today....

I honestly can see 24-17 final

Nd plays that "bend but don't break" defense...I see long drives by Alabama ...clock ticking...nd also has tuff red zone d...I see a minimum of 4 field goals...nothing kills an over like fg's! Gl on whatever u decide!

These two defenses are the best in the nation right now by far. I went back and looked at similar games where their opponent had a top defense ranked in top 15 and using scoring defense as the measure in parantheses.

Notre Dame ( #1)
@ Michigan St. (#7)W 20-3 TOTAL 44
Stanford (#11) W 20-13 TOTAL 42
BYU (#3)W 17-14 (OT) TOTAL 41

ALABAMA (#2)
LSU(#10) W 21-17 TOTAL 38.5

As you can see when the match up featured top 15 defenses pitted against each other the UNDER was 4-0 in ND/BAMA games. Tonight will be a game of field position and conservative play calling as turnovers in a teams own territory is devastating in a game where points will be at a premium. Over bettors probabilities rely on turnovers and special teams scores. Give me the Under.
