Great story, my family had a similar one from the late 1970's.
My father owned a trotter named Alice Floridian, she was in the first race at Mohawk, went off at 8-1, we were in the dining room and it was back in the day when betting ladies would take your bets at the table and provide you with a betting slip. We made many bets for our partners and friends. AF was on top by 5 lengths turning for home and as we were gathering the tickets to go for the post race photo in the winners circle, the announcer, Earl Lennox said, it looks like Alice Floridian likes an off-track and guess what happened next, off stride she goes and so did our money.
